I'm sorry, I haven't been a fair "participant" on these boards. . I'm so sick that even getting on my computer isn't part of my life anymore and I feel like it's not fair that I come to you all when I'm in need and I'm not there for you all when you might need me. . . I'm truly sorry.

Does anybody know if it a truly horrific thing if your Pain Management doc. doesn't know that your psych. doc (who referred me, by the way, and always prescribed pain meds until it got to be too "out of her scope". .) had given you a script for one pain med that's still "open" that the Pain Med doc doesn't know about. I've always been too scared (nice how some of us are made to feel so scared) to mention that? I've been going to Pain doc for almost 7 months (not too happily, by the way. .which I've written about before) and in the beginning forgot to write the script down (I was on Neurontin then. . can't remember anything on that!) and then got too scared to mention it? Run on sentence much? Just wondering what you all would do at this point regarding that old script (I filled it probably 2 times since I've been going to the pain doc and it's because he's not MANAGING my pain). . very small dosage of Darvocet N-100. .

Please help if anyone can. .

Thanks and I promise, GOD willing, if I ever get better, I will GIVE BACK.

God bless. . .

hi bjean,

If you look at any contract it is pretty specific when it says that the PM Dr. is the only Dr. that is to Rx pain meds. to you and getting them from another Dr. is 'cause' for dismissal.

If you have had pain med. Rx/'s filled from 2 Dr.'s within 30 days and the Dr.'s don't know about it I think they call it 'double Dr.;ing' , and could get you in some trouble.

I think so much of it depends on the Dr.'s that are involved and how strict they are.

I'm certainly no expert on the subject though.

When you say 'open' Rx. do you mean you have refills or does the pharmacy call the Dr. for an OK on each refill?

I didn't read any of your posts but if it is for Darvocet does it really help all that much? At this point I don't know what the best thing to do is?? 'Close' the Rx and carry-on not saying anything or tell him at your next visit. When did you fill it last?

Thank you Zach. .
I don't have a "contract". I've seen that posted several times on here, I just never got one. No, the darvocet doesn't help much, I guess, I just keep it as a "safety net" because I get so overwhelmed by the pain at times and I guess what he's giving me (hydrocodone 10/325, 8 a day), Lyrica, Dilaudid, 2, 4mg each night, isn't helping me be even 70& better). I'm a candidate for the spinal cord stimulator surgery, which I would love so I could get off of all of these meds altogether, even though that procedure scares the heck out of me! I last filled the script about 3 weeks ago (it's a 7 day's worth quantity of the darvocet), I still have it, and there are 2 refills left. This is from the Doc that referred me to this PM doc in the first place. She knows about everything I'm taking (much more understanding of the scope of the pain). She handles my depression medication and is my therapist/APRN, very familiar with prescribing, etc. it just got over her head) He does not now. I have made posts before about how "undertreated" I've felt, this Dr. has consistently seen me, knowing that I'm still in agony and has let me leave on about 3 or 4 visits with no new options. Then he tried me on Methadone, 5mg, 1 pill 4 times a day, then slowly titrated up to 2, 5mg pills, 4 times a day. I lasted 3 weeks on this medication (never took the Darvocet with this med). I landed in the ER with an upper, impacted bowel (I thought I'd felt about all the pain I could wrap my brain around until that day). I stopped this med cold turkey because no one from the office of my pm doc called me back the day after I was in the hospital!! So, needless to say, here I am, with nothing different to look forward to, no new options (except, perhaps spinal cord stim?) than when I first went to him.

Don't know what to do either. I just definitely won't refill darvocet and go from there, I guess?

Thanks so much for trying to help. I'm not sure if this info. makes it any easier for you to offer any suggestions.

I can't thank you enough for your response.

Take good care and I'm not that familiar w/these boards yet. . are you new? Are you ok? Do you have a good PM doc? I hope so, for you.

Contract or not, a Pain Management patient should not be getting additional medications or refilling old ones from a different doctor. If your PM finds out he may dismiss you from the practice, he doesn't need a contract to give him the right to do so.

If your pain isn't properly being managed you need to discuss this with your PM, if they are unwilling to assist you then you may consider seeing a different PM.

Thnks for input Kissa. .yeah, they are definitely not addressing my pain properly, so we'll see where it goes.

Thanks,
Barb
