this morning i had a bowel movement , i felt some cramping and what not, and i noticed a mucous looking substance in my stool, ive made an appointment to see my physician, but unfortunatly cant get in for another week, i havent really had any symptoms except for excessive gas, constipation, and mild pains but never in one area and my stomach seems to be making alot of noise, i was just wondering if this is something that i should be worried about, or if it could all be a stress related problem, i guess that i should add that i have been excessivly stressed the past week, well im just looking for thoughts, maybe keep me from worrying, thanks!

Hemorrhoids and IBS can cause mucousy stools. There are other things that can cause them too. Best to do what you are doing and go see the doctor. Don't get worked up that it can be something serious until you get checked out. Good luck and let us know if you find out anything.

One episode of mucous in the stools doesn't sound too serious.
I had a colonoscopy about 18 months to look for the source of some bleeding. All they found were three small benign polyps. I do have IBS and I had one week about a year ago where my stools were curiously mucousy, but it resolved on its own.
The rule of thumb seems to be that any change in stools/habits that lasts longer than a week to ten days (some say two weeks) warrants an investigation by a doctor (except noticeable bleeding which warrants immediate attention).
