View Full Version : Could this be Addison's (or another adrenal issue)

Hi everyone,
I've been feeling very weak and tired for months. I have been on medication for hypothyroidism since 2003, when my TSH was at 200-something. Since then, I've had bloodtest after bloodtest and my TSH keeps bouncing around. I have a few very small thyroid nodules (Endo is not concerned about them) & Hashimoto's Disease.

After being told that I would just have to "deal with" my fatigue, weakness & other symptoms, I decided to do some online research for myself. I found a bunch of sites/articles that say there is a connection between hypothyroidism and adrenal disorders.

Here are my symptoms: (not being fixed by thyroid medication)
- Extreme fatigue & weakness (i go to bed almost as soon as i get home from work at 4:30 and sleep until the next morning when my alarm clock wakes me, even then it's difficult to wake up). Even just a little bit of physical exertion tires me out.

- Weight gain. I have always been very small (like 105) but now I am suddenly 130. Even last summer I wore a bikini and weighed no more than 115. Most of the weight is in my belly. I don't eat a lot and I drink plenty of water.

- Mind in a constant fog, can't concentrate

- Bruise easily. Cuts (even small ones) heal into a pinkish brown scar.

- Low blood pressure. I've known about the low blood pressure since 1997. Typically it's around 90/50.

There are a host of other vague symptoms, but these are the most bothersome to me.

On my most recent labs (7/12/06) I noticed that my CO2 is increasing (I'm at 28 and 30 is considered high). I read that high CO2 can sometimes be attributed to adrenal disorders.

Anyone have any idea what could be going on with me? I feel like an old lady, but I'm only 29 years old.

Thanks!

Hi CJNJ
ALthogh it is not going to help still just to share with you ,I have been suffering from nearly same symptoms +irregular periods+weight gain +sore jointsand muscles ... I got ACTH stimulation test done following a low morning cortisol levels, which came back normal. Dr says everything is fine on paper but I dont feel fine and dont know what to do when the endo says there is nothing wrong. She said that 30% hypothyroid patiests always complain of these symptoms even thogh clinically they are euthyroids(normal)
I read some information on Fibromyalgia on this same board and every single symptom of mine I can relate to it,for which there is no treatment just symptoms management(so far my understanding of the topic( ).
Keep on reading and based on that insist for tests and get your self tested come to a conclusive diagnosis
Good luck

I have hashimoto's thyroiditis, and graves disease and I guess Hashi toxicosis, I fell like you do, but my endo thinks I shouldnt feel this bad since I was put on synthroid... I have been wondering if I have cushings or bounce back from it to addisons? I have a very stressfull job and my adrenaline levels jump and fall the whole shift. I have had so much fatigue this summer I could just ly on my bed for days, but I have 4 kids and I only work 30 hrs a week, but it feels like I work 1000. I have a hard time w/my hands and I have to type all night. I feel like my typing skills that used to be great are just crap, and my mind fog is unbelieveable, I have alot of the other symptoms you described, I wonder every day when I will have to quit my job and go on dissability. I am waiting for my 24 urine test results, and like the watched pot... I just want to know what is making me so miserable? Every one I know thinks Im a hypochondriac, all the things I have wrong (Ive been falling apart for the last 6 years, and I just found out about the thyroid stuff this year.) Any way... Im in the same boat as you, tell me what you find out w/your tests. Rachel

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well.

If you're on Synthroid and still not feeling well, you may want to check into trying Armour Thyroid instead. A lot of people on the thyroid board did very poorly or improved only marginally before being switched.

Good luck to you!

Sharon

I finally had a blood test this morning to test my am cortisol blood levels (along with a few dozen other tests--they took 6 tubes of blood from me and made me pee in a cup--wah!!!) But I can't wait until the results come back so I can know if this is what's wrong with me. They said the results will be in by Monday.
