I just had labiaplasty (trim) and tape was used instead of stitches. I was wondering if my doctor should have given me antibiotics afterwards. someone else i have spoken to said she was prescribed 500 mg of Levaquin. Has anyone else had the prescription?
I've been keeping it clean and using a saline mist to clean it, and applying a triple antibiotic ointment.
I've been looking around all over the internet and even here and it hasn't really answered my questions... and my doctor lives 4 hours away.
It's been a few days after surgery it doesn't hurt, i've been in bed and walking around a little bit and everything seems okay. I've just been in a pair of pajama shorts, undertwear and a gauze pad. It doesn't really stop bleeding but it's minimal around the incision... please tell me this is common? It's just that my nerves are shot and i've been having anxiety over this the most thing i'm afraid of is any complications. There has also been "bruising"... at least i hope its bruising. Anyway, I was hoping if anyone who has also had this procedure can give me some information and tips. THANKS! =)

Hi,
I unfortunately can’t help your specific situation, but bruising/swelling is completely normal any time you make incisions and work on an area. As far as your question, aren’t you able to contact the plastic surgeon over the phone? Hope you get everything straitened out.

Oh, it'll be bruising. I was horrifically bruised after mine, don't worry. The wound also bled and wept for days afterwards (actually it was weeks in my case), and I wasn't prescribed any antibiotics - I think that generally depends on the preference of the surgeon. Some don't think it's necessary, some insist on it. If you're keeping it really clean and applying the ointment regularly, you're probably going to be fine. In any case, I would contact your surgeon just to put your mind at rest and get your questions answered professionally. If your surgeon is reputable, they won't mind you doing this at all, and will be happy to provide aftercare by phone. Good luck with your healing, hope you're happy with your results.

So far I'm not too happy about it and i can live with it but right now my main concern is my health and i'm afraid and worried about infection. I've been keeping the area sparkly clean and using topical over the counter antibiotics to "help reduce the risk" but now i'm positive there are complications. The thing is.... absolutely no one knew i was getting this procedure done and it's quite embarassing to say the least.
I was wondering is any one knows the type of antibiotics they prescribe and for how long before I have to call my surgeon. So far I've heard Levaquin (but im not positive) and Cipro.
If anyone knows any types of antibiotics that can be prescribed for im guessing... bacterial infection... PLEASE helpppppp
