View Full Version : Patulous Eustachian Tube (PET) *cure?

Hi,

I have an open (damaged) Eustachian Tube (right side). It all started in 1997 I got a cold or something and my nose was sealed. Couldn't breath through my nose. So I decided to wheeze my nose free... but after the third wheezing my right ear made a BIG POP. And the right Eustachian Tube was unsealed, for ever.

I went to several ENT (cause at this time I didn't even know that a Eustachian Tube existed) to explaining those cruel annoying feelings (hearing my own breathing in the ear, echo, pressure like my eardrum will tears apart). Most of them prescribed me some "nose spray" and claimed that this is just a cold. After my cold was gone the Eustachian Tube was still open. So I went on to some other ENT, some of those idiots :dizzy: didn't believed me. ...in the end I found only "one" ENT who clearly diagnosed that I have a "Patulous Eustachian Tube".

Soon I found out that if I lay down the ET sealed. So I laid down often. But after I stand up the ET unsealed.

I reminded what my chemistry teacher us told, if you get a cold use boiled water with salt and suck it (or drop it) through the nose. I tried that and it helped. I also tried tea and milk. The important thing is that you must boil the liquids to kill all bacteria and it should be warm something like 37-44 degree.

How does it work? logically, the salt water went to the open ET and seal it. It holds much longer than the "lay down" treatment. So I did that everyday, several times, for about 4 years. But at this point it won't help any longer satisfying. One normal breath and the salt water (or tea) is immediately in my mid ear. Obviously the ET has expanded...

So now I really don't know what I should do. I was an athlete, sport was my life. But I can't exercise "normally" with an open Eustachian Tube. You can't breath normally with an open ET.

I really consider suicide, cos I can't live like that anymore. Life without sport is dead for me. Life without normal breathing is dead for me.

Pls help me.

dr dennis poe in boston treats this surgically,

The only thing I found about Dr. Poe is the following: Dennis S. Poe, M.D. Dept. of Otolaryngology, Children's Hospital, Boston. But there is nothing about PET specialist or something else. Also I don't live in the US...

also do a search for patulend nose spray out of california....

Patul-END from the Ear Foundation of Santa Barbara?

That is totally rubbish! They sell 15 ml. bottles for $ 48 ... the same result you can get with "salt water" or tea as I mentioned above. So it is just a rip off.
