View Full Version : Tension Headaches

In addition to all the other crap I've been dealing with, I'm wondering if I suffer from these as well. Within the last couple of weeks, I've begun to get these headaches that seem to crop up when I lay down in odd positions (head propped up on pillows while on back reading). I get pains in my neck that spread to the base of my skull. The last few days I've had pains in my neck that travel up and become headaches located at the back of my head. There's also some intermittent ear pain and some pain around my jaw. I take excedrin tension or migraine (whichever one I have closest to me) and the pain goes away. Sometimes it comes back later in the day. Does this sound like a tension headache? TMJ? Is it something else? I just got one about a half an hour ago and it slowly came out of nowhere. I wonder if it's how I have my head and neck positioned here at work.

hi,

Sounds like my headaches.. the use of a pillow is a sure fire way to get a headache Caffeine is a bad thing, as I sit sipping my diet coke. I have weaned myself off of it and the headaches virutally disappear. I foudn that understanding it is 1/2, and only 1/2, the battle. I was diagnosed with HPB a few years ago, after my son passed... just another sign of stress that has gone on for 2 long. I tend to tense up using my shoulders. I do it so often that I dont always realize it. I tired to lowere the arm rests on myoffice chair, so I coudnt lean on them with my elbows, causing me to hunch up.

I have an issue with raising my shoulders up as well. I constantly am having to lower them. And I also have the issue with my arms, the right one specifically. I try to keep it lowered while I'm typing at work or at home, which is often a trial. If not it gets numb, along with my shoulder and then up my neck and bingo! Headache city! I'm so uncomfortable these days. Tension and stress are taking a lot of things away from me.
