Well dd and I just had the ER visit from hell, and all do to with this thrush.
Two days ago, dd had her 2 month checkup. Doc said her thrush still hadn't completely cleared so instead of giving her more Nystatin, she gave her a prescription for Diflucan (5 days). Well, this was her second day and she is miserable. She has hardly nursed all day and she is literally screaming making faces like her mouth is bothering her. So I phoned the pediatrician and 5 hours later they still hadn't returned my call. dd had seemed to settle down so I went to work at 5pm (only had a 4 hour shift), and at 8:30 got the most dreaded call, a call from dh saying I needed to come home. dd woke up at around 7, wouldn't eat, and had been screaming bloody murder, holding her fist to her mouth.
We took dd to the ER, and the pediatrician on call must've really been a nurses aid in disguise! Firstoff, he stared at me, dh, and dd like we were aliens (picture it, dd is biracial). Then he tells me that you can't sterilize the nipples and pacifiers in boiling water, they have to be thrown out daily, then he pressed on dd belly for 30 mins, like he was giving her the heimlich manuever. It didn't even bother her at all. And after all of this, he scraped her tongue with those cotton swabs and she screamed like hell. After that, that goofball had the nerve to tell me that he thinks she has colic! Now by now, I am p-o'd because I have to deal with this idiot AFTER her ped never called back. I'm literally screaming at him how can she (and I) have had thrush a day ago and now it's gone?? So he asks me, like I'm the friggin doctor, what he should give her. I told him that he better write her a script for something, possibly a topical, that will make her mouth feel better immediately. The goofball did, we went to Walgreens, and now dd is feeling better and able to eat.
Needless to say, I am not feeling to thrilled about any doctor right now.
