My son will be three months tomorrow. He's got really good head control (unless he's tired) and likes to sit up with assistance. Usually, I'll hold him around his rib cage or a little bit lower while he "practices" sitting.
Is there anything else I should be / could be doing? I've looked at buying a BebePod, but $35 - $40 seems like a lot to spend on something he'll only use for a few months.
Thanks!

I knwo this will sound crazy to alot of people but with my first DD at 2 - 2 1/2months i put her in a walker and put blankets around her to support her and pillows under her feet so she could touch. and that worked wonders.....she got stronger sooo much faster than i thought....after that she started doing everything early!! and she loved playing with the toys on the walker also. hope this is helpful to u!

The average time for baby to be sitting unaided is 7 months. Pillows are a great idea and balancing on your knee helps strengthen their core muscles.

DD was starting to hold herself sitting up around 5 months old, but always tipped over pretty fast. At 5.5 months old, I sat her up & supported her with the boppy pillow & she could sit up for a long time & liked to play like that. It helped her balance better. She was seeing the world from a different persepective. After a couple weeks of the boppy holding her up, she was able to hold herself up alone without the support.
Did the boppy actually help teach her balance??? I really don't know. Probably not. She was sitting up at 6 months old...which is a normal age for that. I think it gave her a little motivation to want to sit up more. It gave us something new to practice on. I think the repetition and DD working new muscles was what really did it.

Well, I'm glad to know that he shouldn't be doing it until 6-7 months, because for some reason I thought it was 4-5 months, and I didn't think he'd get there on time.

We bought the "Bumbo" seat for dd, who is 3 1/2 months old. It's like the Pod, but supposed to be better. She seems to like it and looks SO cute when she's in it. I saw another mom using it with her 5 month old and she had him sitting in it while he played with the Einstein gym. I had never thought to do that...she seems to get sick of laying on her back all the time. I still prefer to hold her though!!

Try not to get hung up on ds's age and milestone achievements... every baby is different. My dd is really talkative for her age but nowhere near starting to crawl... swings and roundabouts - ds will have different abilities in different domains, nothing is textbook.

With my DD I just did little practice sessions, sitting her down and holding her sholders so she could balance. She could sit by herself by 4 1/2 months. I started practicing with Gabe a couple weeks ago, he is a bit over 3 months and also keeps very good head control. It all depends on how well baby can balance. They probably should be able to sit any where from 4-7 months would be normal.

My daughter is nearly four months old now and I have been putting her in the exersaucer for the past month. I also sit her up on the floor in front of me and let her grasp my fingers.
