Hi. I sprained my foot when I was a little girl and ever since then have had pain, sometimes unbearable pain, in my foot. I was told it was a form of athritis due to the injury. I even had a specialist pin point the exact location and I know he was right because he pressed there and it hurt like nowhere else did and I paid attention after that and realized that was right where the pain always came from.

Well, a few years ago I broke that same foot, in a completely different place. A couple of top bones broke and once that healed, I was slow to realize it, but I no longer had the pain in the side little bone that they pointed out was being worn away. But I do get pain on the top of my foot. Rarely as bad as the pain I had on the side my whole life. And my foot tends to swell and sometimes discolor on top. But it seems unfathomable to me that that break would make my severe arthrisit pain just go away. Yet I never feel pain there anymore. Only on top!

How could this be? What might have happened? I figure even if that tiny bone that used to cause me all of that pain all the time was finally gone from being worn down, I would experience pain then, too, wouldn't I? I don't get it at all. Everyone I talk to has no clue.

I know that this might sound strange but you still might have pain in the side and in the top of your foot. With me when I get realy bad pain in one of my joints the pain in the other joins is not as bad or not there at all. The pain on top might be worse then the pain on the side and that is what your brain is concertreating on. Just an idea.
