Hi, I am 20 years old and over the past 4 weeks have been suffering with pains.I have been taking Nexium for about seven days now. I have sharp chest pain ocassionally on the right,left and middle of my chest, my left arm has been bothering me lately after starting the Nexium. I also get bloated alot and sometimes have sharp pains in my stomach area. I am scared that it could be my heart but I have had three EKG's preformed on me and the all come back normal and my blood pressure is normal. The Gastro Specialist thinks that the pains in my chest are because of my esophagus which radiates pain across the chest. Has anyone had this before?? and should I go back again to the doctor because the pains are not being aleviated by the Nexium?? I also have taken Zantac 75 which did not do anything and Aciphex which made my symptoms worse. I just am a little scared because I have never exprerience anything like this before.

It may just be a bad case of gerd. Did the doctors perform an endoscopic procedure on you?? If not, they rally should just to see what is going on inside. As for the nexium, it may take much more then 7 days to start working on the gerd, so you should stay on it just to see what happens. Try taking acidophillus too, that should relieve the bloating a whole lot. It may even take those pains away. It's over the counter and herbal so no presciption is needed. Try it out see if it works.

No I did not have an endoscopic perform yet, but my regular doctor wanted that to be done. When I went to see the Gastro Specialist he wanted me to have a gallbladder sonogram done on me first and to take nexium and I see him in a week for a follow up. I will try the herbal medicine for the bloating thanks http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I am going to make another appointment to see the doctor today. In reading the messages on this board and reading other information I think I might have h.pylori because I don't really have heartburn I just have pain and bloating alot espicially after a meal and I seem to get full pretty quickly because of the bloating. I also don't seem to respond well to the meds I have been taking and in reading the information that comes with the medications they all say that symptoms could worsen if you take them and have h. pylori. I just can't wait for this to be behind me and I am back to normal

I hear ya'. That's what I always said....I can't awit till this is behind me and I'm back to normal. Definitely get an endoscope, the best way to tell what is wrong...plus they will take tissue samples of your stomach, to test for the H. pylori.

do they take the tissue samples at the same time as the endoscope??

Yes-- during an endoscopic exam they can see very clearly and biopsies are taken of any area that looks unusual.

to ajal28;
yes I've had that same feeling and still get it from time to time. i just went to the gastro dr and he thinks it's something like lactose intolerant. My primary says I have acid/reflux also. The first time I went to my primary back in august that was my first symptoms pain in the uppper right under my ribs and gurgling on either side.

Is your pain in your chest and arm a burning pain? I am having the same problems you are. My pain isn't a burngin pain but just a hurting pain. I went to my family doc and my EKG was fine and blood pressure was okay. I am only 25.
I go to a cardiologist next 2 weeks. I want to just make sure. Pretty scary though.
