View Full Version : When did you lose the crib?

How long did your babies stay in a crib? I'm asking this premature since I don't think DS will be out of his for a while. He just figured out how to pull up. My mom was telling me that I was out of the crib really early though because I had a bad habit of climbing out of it all the time. She said she was constantly finding me hanging over the top. What age did you have to switch to a bed because the crib was unsafe? I've already lowered ours and put the sides up so once he is able to get up there, I can't do much to stop him.

As soon as your baby starts to climb out then I would suggest putting down the crib and even using the mattress on the floor if a bed isn't really where things are at for all of you yet.
My son never tried to climb out and starting asking to be in a big boy bed at just over 2.

DS never tried to climb out of his crib and he stayed in his until just before his 3rd b-day.

DD was around 15 months when i switched her to a toddler bed.....the sides were high enough she wouldnt roll off and it is low to the ground so she could climb in it and out of it without falling or anything......was the best decision i ever made!!!

When did you all switch to a regular sized bed, meaning not a toddler bed? Has anyone ever went from the crib to a regular bed and skipped the toddler bed altogether?

I switched from crib to bed the morning after he managed to climb out of his crib. It was a shock to see that chubby bubby come toddling into my room after he had been put to bed! It scared the pudding out of me I tell you.

The next day, I went to the furniture store and got him a bed. I felt a lot better about him getting out of the bed than I did about taking the chance of him climbing out of that crib and possibly breaking his little body.

When did you all switch to a regular sized bed, meaning not a toddler bed? Has anyone ever went from the crib to a regular bed and skipped the toddler bed altogether?A friend of mine put both her girls from a crib straight to a twin bed with no problems.

I put my son in a toddler race car bed when he was around 15 months because he tried to climb out and fell. The next night he was in his little race car. (I was soooo excited, I always wanted one when I was little because Rick Schroder had one on that show...) He was pretty upset about not having his crib though. If your ds doesn't try to climb out then I'd say leave him in for as long as you can because when they're in a bed they are very MOBILE!!!

I also put DS into a twin from the crib. My MIL still had one of those tents that hooked on twin beds from when DH was a kid and put that on there. We put him in at about 21 or 22 months of age. He loved it and stayed in it because it still felt like it had boundries. We got him a new police car tent and he didn't like it.He has slept on the bed with no tent since last christmas. We also put just the mattress and boxspring on the floor until about 2 months ago so it wouldn't be too high off the ground.
I bought DD a toddler bed for her 1st birthday because I was sure she would have crawled out of it by now but she is doing great. I actually forgot to put the side back up twice last week (don't judge I know I suck) ans she didn't even try. She was just laying there waiting playing with her feet.

Very good question. Mine is 11 months and is trying to get out. Last night she stood up, found her panda bear and stood on it so she could climb over. That didn't work so she started to shake the entire crib, she is such a strong baby it amazes me! I had to laugh but at the same time I get really scared. She isn't walking just yet, trying but isn't. I have no clue what to do with her, I'm afraid she may get out cause our floors are marble and if she falls she will get hurt. I want to wait until she walks cause its way too early so I will just keep a very watchful eye for now.

I guess we were lucky but none of our three ever tried to climb out. Our oldest went to a twin bed when he was 2 1/2, our second when he was just over three and our third when she was 3 1/2. If they don't try to climb out I think life is so much easier while they are in the crib.
