View Full Version : CIN III and other cancers.

I had a hysterectomy to help treat recurrent dysplasia. I had CIN III that was treated but came back as well as other gynecological issues. I am wondering if there is a correlation between squamous cell carcinoma on the cervix and skin? Also what are the chances of the dysplasia going into the bladder and not being deteced? Is your risk for other cancers increased? Thanks :)

Squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix is caused by HPV whereas skin cancers are caused by other factors (some unknown, and some known like excessive sun exposure). HPV does not cause skin cancer. It does slightly increase your risk for a few other cancers. These are vulvar, vaginal and anal cancers. Some research suggests it also slightly increases risk of oral cancers (tongue, upper throat).

Dysplasia cannot spread to the bladder, because cervical dysplasia by definition is not invasive. If your dysplasia had not yet become invasive cancer (and CIN III is not invasive), then it could not have spread to the bladder.

Thanks for the response! I have been having alot of bladder problems and wondered if maybe the dysplasia could be in my bladder or other parts of my body. I have alot of interest in health conditions and I always try to learn as much as I can. Thanks :)

What kind of bladder problems are you having? Because I have read that having HPV causes recurrent bladder infections & if you had CIN III, you have had HPV, and may still have.

I have been leaking urine, feeling full all the time, and having urgency. Also a weird smelly discharge from time to time. Dr cant find a reason for the discharge or urine. I have been tested many times for bladder infections and the UA is always fine. I just have some many health conditions that cant be explained I swear there is somthing really wrong with me whether it be cancer or somthing else. I have also had anemia for over a year and nausea, vomiting, starting to lose weight and multiple other problems. Just multiple things that a 26 year old wouldnt normally experience. I put the CIN III on the back of my mind since I had my hysterectomy but I am driving myself nuts trying to figure out what may be going on in my body and so I started doning more research on the possibility of dysplasia in other parts of body. Cancer has effected my family alot and I guess I am feeling like if thats what going on then I can catch it early and be ok.

Cervical dysplasia cannot spread to other parts of the body. The very definition of cervical dysplasia is that it is confined to the outermost layer of the cervix. It cannot spread until it becomes cancer, when it invades the actual body of the cervix, but CIN III is not cancer.

Hello Ladies-

Timber seems to be well educated with all this stuff, so I have a question.

Can moderate dysplasia that was confirmed by a biopsy, just end up being that? I am scheduled for a cone at the end of August, and I am terrified that it may turn out to be something more. If it was cancer, would it have shown from the biopsy? I do have a copy of the pathology report, and it just says "HGSIL with moderate dysplasia".

Any info from anyone would be great!

Oh when I say dysplasia in other parts of the body I mean other precancers not cervical dysplasia. Just like some people get recurrent cancer of other types is it possible to have dysplasia of other types or be prone to growing them? Thanks

It could come back as cancer, but it doesn't happen often. And the chance that it will come back as invasive cancer is even more slim still. It's not something you should worry too much about, and even if it did come back as cancer, early cancers are usually just treated with a cone anyway. So, you'd probably require no extra treatment.

This is a complicated question but I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Dysplasia is kind of a broad term which basically means "abnormal but non-cancerous or pre-cancerous cells." Dysplasia of the cervix forms on the epithelial cells of the cervix. Epithelial cells are the cells that line surfaces of the body. And yes, abnormal or pre-cancerous cellular changes can occur on epithelial tissue elsewhere in the body. For example, these changes could happen in the colon, or in the esophagus. In fact, esophageal dysplasia can be checked for during an endoscopy in much the same way that cervical dysplasia is (and it must be treated before becoming cancer).

Being prone to cervical dysplasia wouldn't indicate that you are prone to other dysplasias, because all dysplasias are caused by different things. Esophageal dysplasia is often caused by acidic foods and severe heartburn, whereas cervical is caused by HPV and so on. However, similar factors could encourage the growth of all types: smoking, for example, would encourage abnormal cells to grow in many places of the body.

Thanks Timber! I do appreciate the information and feel a little more at ease.

I went to the Gyno/Onoc yesterday and he did another colpo, and there were no abnormal cells that showed. But the biopsies I had done in April showed the HGSIL. Could the dysplasia disappeared in 3 months? It was moderate and I guess that is labeled CIN II. I am still going to have the cone done at the end of this month, but just thought it was kind of weird to have 2 different reports.
