View Full Version : Feeling NAUSEOUS after gallbladder removal a week ago...

Just wondering if any of you that had your gallbladders removed continued to feel nauseous after your surgery? It has been over a week since my surgery now and I hadn't had any nausea after my surgery until it woke me up last night at about 3AM. It was pretty strong (like I needed to vomit) for about half an hour and then I was finally able to go to sleep again.

I am quite the worrier so I started imagining all kinds of things and thinking that something might have gone wrong with my surgery?! Now I'm worried so I would like to ask you all to share your stories if you could? This morning I feel better but still a bit nauseous. I tried eating some toast and it helped a bit. I thought things were so great up until last night. I'm still a bit sore but there is very little pain and I'm finally able to do things again.

I will really appreciate all of your responses and your stories.

Thanks!

 Hi:

I had my gallbladder out last September followed by 2 more operations in October and I was nauseous with severe vomiting for about 5 months after surgery. I couldn't keep anything down and had non-stop persistent diarrhea (which I still have due to microscopic colitis). I don't know if it was from the gallbladder surgery or the later ones but it was awful.

Some people have trouble with what they can eat after the surgery and have to take it slowly. Can you mention it to your surgeon at your follow-up? If it gets troublesome you could ask for some compazine (which I used for months with no ill effects) to help. Also ginger is very good for nausea so some ginger tea or ginger candies might be helpful.

Hope you are better soon!

Meg
