Hello there,
I have had stomach problem off and on due to sinus issues, etc.......Antibiotics in November '05, May '06 and a mega dose (PREVPAC) in June'06 because I tested high for the H Pyl bacteria. I have had the following complaints:
1. Bloated\Fullness.
2. Stomach cramps, burning, gurgles and pain.
3. Nausea, feeling like I want to barf.
4. Wet burps that contained acid and food.
5. Feeling horrible in the morning after a night's sleep, as if I was going to barf upon awaking.
6. Acid taste in mouth.
I have been taking Prevacid and I think that it made things worse. I have also been taking a Probiotic, Primal Defense, to replaced the good bacteria that the antibiotic killed off.
I came across "Blupumkin"'s thread that has been closed but it still remains as a reference for us near the top of the page. She referenced taking 250mg of Magnesium Oxide and she and others have had good results. So, I picked up some today and have taken 1 and will now take 1 daily as prescribed on the bottle.
Bluepumkin, are you feeling good? Anyone else had good results too?
Regards,
Zman

Aaron,
bluepumkin has not posted on Heathboards since 11/2004 and his problem was a lot different from your problems. He started with what I thought was muscle spasms/ cramping caused by a hiatal hernia for 9 years and all his tests for years revealed nothing except a hiatal hernia. And, manesium worked for him along with a digestive enzyme when eating.
I think you now have gastritis along with acid refux. If you got rid of the H pylori bacteria-- with the PrevPac.
What happens here is after a member solves their problems -- they sometimes just vanish. And some of us stick around for years because the boards have helped us so much.
First of all-- the PPI you are taking may not agree with you and if it makes you worse --it could be --side effects -- so stop taking it -- all PPIs are basically the same but react differently to many people. That is what happened to me. They certainly don't do the same thing for everyone.
I would get nauseated with Prevacid & Nexium and not feel good---and Aciphex did nothing that I could tell after 2 weeks-- the only one that I have taken that works to reduce stomach acids w/o making me feel bad is Prilosec--- so you have to find the 1 that works for you for acid refux!!
You need to elevate the head of your bed 3 to 4 inches so stomach acid does not travel up your esophagus while laying down and are sleeping-- some people have to elevate their bed even higher-- I just use a piece of wood 4x4 and that works for me. It is really about 3 1/2 inches thick.
As I wrote you previously-- you need to solve your sinus problem -- not with a drug that suppresses the symptoms like Nasonex but naturally-- Like with a Grossan Hydro Pulser -- Nasal sinus irrigator. Or, your sinus problems will continue every so offen-- get inffected especially in the spring w/ aot of pollens around and fall and you will be treated with an antiobiotic. I live in a very humid sinus irritating place. I know the procedure. I lived with sinus problems most of my adult like until someone on healthboards suggested that they were helped with the Grosann Hydro Pulser.
Enough for now but read up about magnesium and what that mineral does in the body-- it is not a magic bullet but is for specific ailments but it is a good mineral to take because lacking it makes all illnesses worse!!

Thanks Harry, I elevated my bed just before going to bed last night (beach towels worked) and I feel better this morning. I had noticed for a year or so that it seems like my bed was lower at the head than the at the foot. Hence, everything was draining upward?
I woke up at 5 this morning and was able to go back to sleep until 6:30. Normally, I would have to just get right up or hang out and not fall back to sleep.
I will read up more about the benefits of magnesium.
Thank you,
Zman

Aaron,
Glad that raising the head of yor bed helps the acid stay in your stomach!!
As you know a PPI reduces stomach acids so it does mess with your digestion.
I don't take a PPI on a regular basis but only when I have had some stomach problems.
And, I always take a digestive enzyme with meals-- A more complete one with larger meals and a not so larger one with smaller meals. The one that I use that is pretty complete is Source Natruals -- Essential Enzymes-- On the back of the container it tells you what each enzyme does to help your digestion.
Take Care~~~Harry
PS I edited my top post on this thread you may want to re-read it? It was late last nite when I wrote it and it was not clear in some areas.
