hello all,
I just wanted to vent a little .I too am having a lot of pain here . My pain has not be in control for a while now.But i didn't say anything out right to pm dr out of fear he will think i am drug seeking.I have only had him as a dr for about 5 months. I do have an appt. this friday. But he made the comment at my last visit about me beening max out at 8 10 mg norcos a day. Yes,i know that i can't have anymore norcos but i know there is other meds. So, this time i want to just straight out tell him this is working for the pain.I am still worried he may not help. I get so very angry that i have to worry about beening labeled as a drug addict ,instead of a patient that is in pain. I don't know maybe this is just me. I have had alot of trouble even working lately. It is very depressing to live like this.I hope this passes soon.I could use some incouragement(sp?) so i will get a backbone. Thanks again for always beening here.

Kelsey, remember that you aren't doing anything 'wrong' by still being in pain when you are taking them as directed. Tell the doctor that you are still having pain and you are interested in moving to a long acting pain control method. All he can say is no, and you won't be any worse off. Hopefully he can adjust your meds so that you are getting some relief. You always have our friendship and support, so please let us know how it goes, when one of us has something like this happen, all of us learn. Best of luck, Fabby

Kelsey-
I'm really sorry your pain is not being managed and even more sorry that you feel affraid to speak with your pm doctor about just how bad the pain is. I think many of us really do tip-toe around this subject even though we are being seen by pm doctors because we are in true, proven, chronic pain. I think it's a shame we have been made to feel as though people think we are pill poppers. It's sad, aggrivating and angering. Almost like we must be ashamed of needing the extra help.
I am just as guilty as the next of not going to the doctor or speaking bluntly with them about how bad I'm hurting, and I was given a much needed swift kick in the rear yesterday by KathyMac. (Thank you again Kathy :D  ) She helped me to realize that there is NO need for us to suffer, and when we don't take this into our own hands and be our own advocate, then how in the world are we going to get the help we need?
We do have to be our own best advocate because no one else is in our skin, therefore they can only go by what we tell them and work from that. If we are honest from the get go, there is no miscommunication, and therefore, there is a greater likelyhood that we can get the help we need, whether it be medication, PT, injections, or other modalities.
Good Luck, and please do let your doctor know how bad you really are hurting. Take Care!

Hi Kelsey,
I hear your anger on having to add all these worries to your burden, on top of the physical pain itself! You have a LEGAL RIGHT to sufficient pain management. It is such a pity that this is an issue for so many of us.
I agree that pm is a partnership between a patient and his/her doctors...it's our job to report accurately on whether or not something is working, and it's their job to come up with some options to try next!
So I wish you all the strength you need to go in to your doc and tell it like it is, and get the care you deserve.
Best!
Vickie
