My 2 week old was sleeping so wonderful up until a few days ago, then all of the sudden she won't sleep and if she does it is only for about an hour at a time. I have heard that at two weeks they go through a growth spurt but you think they would sleep more. I am breast feeding her and am having no trouble with that as there are alot of wet diapers so I know she is getting enough. She does want to use the breast as a soother so I have just given her a pacifier she doesn't really like it that much but at this point I will do anything. Last night she was up almost all night long and today as well I am sure she is over stimulated as when I put her down she will fall asleep and then shortly after she fusses and cries I do go to her right away any advice????

I'm breastfeeding too and I found she slept more after. During one though, oh my word, she was on the breast every 30 minutes. Speaking of which, she's due for one. Uhg.

If you can learn to nurse laying down you can take baby to bed with you so can snooze while she eats. A few of us do this, and we find we get WAY more sleep this way.

...funny how the first two weeks seem to go smoothly and then the bomb hits... the first growth spurt!!! You'll find she will have a growth spurt every couple of weeks or so and then a big one at 6 and 12 weeks. I found that taking it hour by hour is the best way to get through the day. If dd is crying see if she wants to feed, if she doesnt, give her a cuddle (making sure she has a dry/clean bottom of course) and trying putting her down while rocking or rolling her basinette. Feeding is the key to good sleep and sleeping is the key for good feeding so its a nasty cycle that you need to go through to get into a smooth rhythm during growth spurts. This will last for a few days and then after that you'll think back and go "phew, we got throught that one by the skin of our teeth..." :p DD will learn to resettle after the first 35-45min sleep cycle, it takes a little while to develop that behaviour.

You're doing well, everyone goes through this stage and remember to offer the breast at every opportunity to increase your milk supply. That is the purpose of a growth spurt...

Good luck

Most babies do not sleep well flat on their backs (at least this has been my experience after having two during the tummy sleeping era, one long after back to sleep and fostering several newborns). This especially becomes evident after those first few sleepy days after birth. Try having your baby sleep in her carseat, bouncyseat or swing, swaddled, propped on her side, on her tummy or with you. During the day you could also try wearing her in a sling.
