ok, im a 20 yr old female ..and i have a huge problem with facial hair. ever since i was young, i always noticed the hair on my face, when i was about 13 ..i started bleaching the hair all over my face, eventually going to depilatory creams, then about 6 years ago i started shaving, and eventually increased to everyday shaving. its horrible now, i have facial hair like a man. if i shave my face smooth before i go to work ...by the time i get off, i have stubble ...its ridiculous.
so about a month ago, i go to a med spa, and i try laser hair removal.. and i couldnt take it AT ALL. it hurt sooo bad, i was crying the lady had only done 4 small swipes with the laser, and i couldnt take anymore.. and i even used the numbing cream they sale you there, i just dont know what to do ..
the lady doing the laser procedures there asked me if i had ever been checked for hormones, i said no ..but thats something that i have always wondered. i dont have any insurance right now ..or the money to go to the doctor and get tested. i was just wondering has any women went through the same thing i have been going through?? ...i just dont know what to do, i even hair some hair on my chest, not bad though, just dark
and to all the girls out there ..that have unwanted hair ANYWHERE ..DO NOT SHAVE!!

no, i couldnt go through with the lazer treament, it hurt so bad, like 100 times worse then getting a tattoo on your face. the coarser the hair is, the worse it hurts, then when you go in for more treatments, they turn up the laser..and it gets stronger, so it hurts more. i think i have too much hair for electrolysis, plus i hate needles. but if its what u want ..then go for it.

Yes it is hormones. Since you dont have medical right now have you tried applying for Medical/medicaid? You can make an appointment with an OBGYN at a family planning clinic also if you have no insurance. As you get older you will notice it more and more... A friend of mine has this same issue (past open heart surgeries ect) and now the meds/conditions are depleating her hormones at an accelerated rate she waxes facial hairs...have you tried that yet?

Please don't wax facial hair. (Brows are an exception) Wax your legs, arms, bikini line all you want. But waxing the chin, neck, upper or lower lip, side burns, and cheeks, i.e., male beard area, (also abdomen, chest and breast) will lead to darker and coarser hairs. These areas are controlled by androgen, a male hormone, and when waxed or tweezed, your androgen rich blood fertilizes the hair follicle and creates a worse problem. And if there is a hormone imbalance, this just adds to the problem. Temporary methods that won't stimulate hair? Shaving, clipping, bleaching, and depilatories. Permanent methods to remove the hair are laser and electrolysis, but if a hormone imbalance is suspected, the hormone imbalance need to be under control before beginning treatment.

I'm glad you mentioned that shaving doesn't stimulate hair growth, as so often people think it does. The reason people who shave think it makes the hair grow back thicker is because when a hair is cut with a razor it has a blunt end rather than its own naturally tapered end. This is what gives the feeling of stubble, but it doesn't mean that the hair is growing back more vigorously. As shaving has no effect on the hair root or follicle it cannot affect the growth of the hair in any way. It is a good temporary method of hair removal, but for long term results it is necessary to use electrolysis or laser. If the hair is blonde or white then laser may not be effective.

i kinda figured it was from horomones, i still havent been checked out. just kinda nerve racking to go to the obgyn to me. on top of no insurance. you said something about androgen levels?? is there a pill that can balance that? or balance my horomones at all.. i know there is, but what kind of pills are they?
