I have been taking vicodin fir three months for pain as a result of spinal surgery. The pain is very managable now without the pills and I know its time to stop on my own before the doctor cuts me off anyway. I am down to three and occasionally four per day (5/500). What is the recomended duration and reduction for tapering so I have the least amount of withdrawel problems?

Thanks,
Dave

I would talk to your doctor. After being on the narcs that long, you do need to taper. However, you always want you doctor knowing what you are doing with your pain meds and why you are taking them. If you don't need them for pain anymore, your doctor should give you a protocol to follow to get of the vicodin with minimal withdrawal.

Medical advice such as tapering down medication should only be given by your doctor and not sought out on the board. Please see your doctor for appropriate instructions on how to discontinue your medication

Thank you
