I'm interested in everyone's experiences with nutritionists (NDs) or other forms of alternative medicine in treating IBD (crohn's, UC) and IBS. I'm scheduled to see a family physician who practices alternative medicine in treating IBD/IBS - mainly by focusing on finding triggers and controlling your diet.
Thanks!!

If you haven't read it already, many swear by Elaine Gottschall's Breaking the Vicious Cycle.

Do you have an IBD? Which one? What meds are you on? Where in the colon is it? What exactly are your symptoms? Are you planning on seeing a GI?
OK, enough questions.

I've seen a GI and he basically told me I have a mild form of Crohn's limited to the area around the terminal ileum. I don't want to believe it but he prescribed me Entocort, which im going to start in the next couple of days. I actually just wanted to see what are peoples general experiences with alternative medicine because when I'm finally off entocort Im hoping on staying in reemission for as long as possible with the help of alternative medicine.

Hi all,
I am new here so if I make some bloomers please forgive me but this thread interested me.
Back in November 2004 I was taken really poorly which resulted in my having my Gall Bladder removed. Unfortunately I was still pretty ill and found that there was very little I could eat that didn't either give me D&V or terrible pains.
My GI really wasn't much help and gave me a prescription for anti-depressants which I never did fill. He said that they could help with IBS which I am not disputing I just wasn't comfortable.
Then earlier this year my husband sudeenly decided that maybe I was having a malabsorption problem so he found some All Compelete Enzymes and I started taking 2 before every meal and now I can eat everything. I have tried to cut the dose down but that doesn't work. So I just take my enzymes with me every where and can function very nicely.
Just a thought for anyone else struggling out there.
Might be worth a thought. There are plenty of enzymes on the market but the only ones that work for me are the all complete ones.
