View Full Version : Can severe cell changes revert to normal?

Approximately a year ago I got the results of my smear test, which came back severe cell changes, and I was referred for a colposcopy. The doctor saw a suspect patch and took a biopsy which came back negative to my relief. Ive recently had a follow up smear. The doctor said the biopsy that was taken might have missed something especially with the original result being severe changes. Anyway after waiting another 8 weeks! I got a letter saying the smear was fine.

Is it safe to assume that the "severe cell changes" have gone back to normal? Im just a little worried that something might have been missed. I go back in December for another colpo.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Chris

Severe dysplasia doesn't usually return to normal without treatment, usually only mild dysplasia does. The reports seem a little inconsistent to me. You may want to request your records and labs and get a look at the actual results yourself. Then if you still see inconsitencies I would confer with your doctor...

Thanks Michelle,

I thought much the same, it does seem a little strange. I guess Im a bit of a worry wart, but a girl I know who went for all her smears ended up having cervical cancer which was missed on at least one occassion. I will have a word with my GP about this and see what his thoughts are.

Thanks again for your reply,

BW Chris
