I have a quick question that has been bugging me. I eat a lot of carrots with meals and for a snack. It says 3 oz. is one serving size and there are 35 calories. I have no idea how many carrots are in 3 oz. so I am worried that I don't know how many calories i'm eating each time. I usually have about 10 baby carrots (more or less). Can someone fill me in on how many carrots = 3 oz.? Thanks a lot in advance!

It really depends on the carrot size, but I once weighed it and about 10-14 carrots is 35Cals..10 being 10 bigger ones, 14 havign some lil ones..

You could just count some out and weigh 3oz worth :)

Well, someone beat me to the suggestion of getting your kitchen scales and putting carrots in until it reaches 3oz!

But more to the point - what I wanted to say was be careful about how many carrots you eat. You can actually overdose on carotene and can even turn orange! Other potential side effects of overdosing on beta carotene are:

blurred vision
bone pain
diarrhea
dry, cracked skin
fatigue
hair loss
headaches
irregular menstrual periods
joint pain
liver damage
skin rashes
vomiting

(info from [DELETED]) - apologies. I didn't realise it was a commercial website, I skipped straight to the carotene page and thought it was an info-only website and thought I should credit it for the information.

Just be careful!

Really? All of those things? I have heard of theorange thing but some of the other things scare me now! How do I know if I am eating too much..and if I am eating too much is there otherthings or food I can eat to help it?

To eat too much you'd have to be eating a ridiculous amount of carrots or sources of carotene...to the point where you'd be eating basically mainly carrots.

Even if you think you eat a "lot", unless you are subsisting on JUST carrots, or you are eating carrots all day long and rarely other foods, I'm positive you aren't in danger of "overdosing."

Anything can be unhealthy or bad for you in excess- moderation is the key to success in any case. Even water is dangerous in copious amounts (meaning litres and litres, not 3 water bottles.)

I thought carrots where a negative calorie food--meaning that the amount of calories in the actual food is less than the amount of calories your body uses to digest it...resulting in you burning calories when you eat a carrot!
