hi
i filed jan 2000 for ssi and have been turned down 2 times and went before the judge and she post poned my hearing and told me it was in my best interest to get a lawyer. so i have a lawyer who tells me NOTHING and its been 5 months since i signed with him.
So i dont know if i may get ssi or not. thats what i would like to know from anyone here if i have a chance, ok i have the following:
diabetes with nerve damage, arythmias daily, hiatal hernia, siatica, arthritis, fibromyalgia, panic disorder, depression, post tramatic stress disorder, carpel tunnel, and who knows what i forgot LOL. I am in constant pain mental and physical. when i was turned down they told me i was too young (37) and and too educated (12th grade grad) and not severe enough. please let me know if i am wasting my time fighting. Its been 3 yrs already and nothing. I really cant work too much pain. and i dont know what good my lawyer is he wont even return a call to tell me what he thinks. thank you so much for your time......Norma

Welcome to the board I'm not sure if this will be much help or not but I do know that ssi goes by your household income. There is a web site for social security.Think if you just put in that in search you will come up with a wealth of info. Also if it was me I would find a lawyer that will return calls and answer any questions I had and would deffinatily get one that specializes in disabilities.
Hope this helps and others will come along with more suggestions or experiences.
Wish you the best
Elaine

thank you for the reply. i finally got a little info from the 800# they said they were 8 months behind on cases to go before the judge in greensboro n.c. and i should hear something by the end of the month with any luck LOL...I would still like to know if anyone out there has gotten ssi due to any of the conditions that i have, and how they proved their case. thank you....norma

when i applied they said i couldnt apply for ssd only ssi. . i started working at 17, but i couldnt seem to hold the same job for more than a year, maybe thats why i dont know, and there were times of no employment. now im 37. havent worked since nov 99.

Well, just a word of advice, my son (16 months) gets ssi because he is hearing impaired. The B.S. about you being too young is a crock of doo doo. I would definatly keep fighting it. From what I hear, actually getting ssi is very difficult for some people. I wish you best of luck. You may want to try to obtain a new attorney.

Hi.I was just approved for SSD.The biggest thing you can get is youre Doctor to fill out a RFC form.SSD is not concerned with the fact you have this certain maladies. The want to know to what degree can you still work.

Did you read that article that was in the N&O the other day about a woman from Raleigh who was 48 and in the same shape as you are in? I read were she has also been trying for the last 5 yrs. without any success either. The article was about where some people were trying to get Congress to do something about the backlog of SSDI cases. But let me make a suggestion get a lawyer that specializes in only Social Security cases if you have a regular doctor see if he willing to write you a letter stating what is wrong with you and that you're unable to work. It took me 2 yrs. to my disability which I suffer from RSD (reflex sympathetic dsytrophy) which is a disease concerning the nerves in my neck and arm. I also suffer from cervical dsytonia (severe muscle spasms in neck) and arthritis but my left arm is permanently disfigured to the point my left hand touches my shoulder. So the thing SS is looking for is permanently disfigurement and medical documentation stating all your conditions that effect your working ability. So I wish you good luck and please find you a good lawyer and a good doctor who will stand by you.
