I have not been scoped yet because they put me on PPI's and it is slowly getting better. The food gets to a point around where my heart is and then it seems to move slowly down.

I had some swallowing difficulty for several years, but barium tests showed nothing wrong. Only when I had an endoscopy did they find I had a stricture and this was the cause of food occasionally sticking. I was put on PPI's and they do help but I don't like taking them as I dislike the thought of suppressing stomach acid long term. Yet if I don't take them the problem will come back, also it puts me at more risk of Barrett's esophagus which raises the risk of esophageal cancer.

I found taking a sip of a hot drink will helplrelax the throat enough for food that is caught to slide on down. May take more than one sip, but it does help.

Drinking a hot drink along with meal will help the problem. Sometimes when food gets caught there isn't room for liquids, just struggle thru until it moves far enough for a sip of hot liquid.
