Anyone on Avonex, Rebif and developed bruising? For some reason lately, Ive developed large sore lumps/bruises for no apparent reason.

I have been on Avonex for almost a year now and I noticed that my injection site has been bruising (about the last 4 shots) and I never had that before. Also I have "mystery" bruises all over my body - but I am not sure if that has anything to do with the medicine or not. I think I may just bruise easily. Never thought of a connection - but I am going to ask my neuro. Must be another side effect!!!

Are you talking about bruising at the injection site in the days following the injection? My wife got a huge bruise (a little larger than a half dollar) after an Avonex injection. We think that we hit a blood vessel because as soon as I pulled the needle out it bled a lot. That was four weeks ago and the bruised area is still visible. Her most recent shot resulted in a smaller bruise - maybe the size of a dime.
Where else do you inject? With the bruising my wife would like to inject is a less obvious place than her thigh.

Na, Im not talking about at the injection site. It just seems that I bump against something and I end up with these large, lumpy bruises that hurt like h---. I've never bruised easliy before either.

I too am on Avonex and have been since last October. I had Liver Function test done monthly for the first 6 months and then have them every 6 months.
I was told if I had any unusual bruising to notify my doctor. Apparently there is a small chance of Avonex affecting the Liver. Those precautions should of been explained when you decide to go on Avonex. I do bruise easily but I haven't got concerned.

It has now been 3 months being on Avonex and just did my third full-strength dose this past weekend. I still get some flu-like symptoms, but Advill seems to keep that under control. However, it seems to me that for the few days following my injection, my MS symptoms appear to be exaggerated. The fatique, joint stiffness, numbness/tingling are very overwhelming. Anyone else notice or deal with this?

I was :( Finally I told the dr. that enough was enough and I would no longer take the drug. I did fine on it for about 1.5 years and then yucko !! I went from controlling the symptoms with Advil to not being able to control the symptoms with prescription strength tynelol (i hate the word - i can never spell it!), dosed between doses with Advil, sleeping pills and muscle relaxers. I decided to switch medicines when I realized I was taking 4 other medicines just to try to get thru the night (which I couldn't do even with those). Less drugs in my system the better I figured.
But my symptoms always lasted a few days after the shot. So I could pretty well count myself out for 2-3 days after the shot. But there was also times that I'd feel so good that I'd forgotten that I had taken the shot. You could just never tell what I'd feel like.
Anyway, since you are just starting the full doses it might take a while for your body to "get used to" the medicine. Maybe in a few more weeks things will be better?? If in doubt call your doctor.
