In April of this year, I had a minor MI. At the time, my blood pressure was pretty high and they were able to get it under control with meds. Since I've been on the meds (20mg Lisinipril and 25mg Metoprolol 2X daily), my blood pressure has been great. Last weekend, I refilled both of my blood pressure medications and now my BP has gone up to 160/100!! My Dr told me to double the dose of the lisinipril and check back next week. I just started this today so don't know if it is working yet, but I'm concerned that if it does not, will BP this high for a week or so be dangerous????

Hi,

Are you basing BP on one random reading? For damage to arteries, high BP probably has to be sustained for months, possibly years. Additionally 160/100is high and needs attention, but it isn't grossly high.

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor used to treat high BP and it may take 2-4 weeks before full benefit. And when the drug is used for heart failure (MI is heart muscle damage that impairs pumping efficiency) it may take several weeks or months to see full benefit (an increase in ejection fraction *EF*).

Thanks Ken...It's been high for about 4 or 5 days with readings being taken 2-3 times a day. With the double dose of Lisinipril, it seems to be coming back down (146/85), but I was just amazed that a cardiologist would not be more concerned with HBP after an MI. I probably just over-reacted! Thanks for your reply!!
