i see all the time people who are on these supposedly "healthy eating plans" that they include fruits in them; HOWEVER, i am trying to lose about 10 lbs and i was told that fruit keeps you from losing weight.... is this true??? i've heard it just packs on the pounds due to the sugar content--- i'm just really confused so i have not been eating fruit, just lean turkey, chicken breast, and tuna fish, and salads- does anyone know the REAL answer about fruit??? thanks

In my opinion, fruit can be abused. I don't think it should be eaten all day long, but it is healthy, and, calorie wise, much better than white sugar. It does serve a purpose. I eat about 3 servings of fruit a day, but about 6 servings of veggies. :)

I'm pretty sure fruit doesn't "stop" you losing weight. I think it is more the fact that a lot of people go on a "diet" and think that if they eat lots of fruit then that will help. However, they tend to forget that fructose (natural sugar found in fruits) is still sugar and if you eat enough fruit, you may as well be shovelling in a couple of tablespoons of actual sugar!
But you certainly shouldn't cut fruit out of a healthy diet on the basis that you want to lose weight.

Fruit will definitely NOT keep you from losing weight. The theory of the sugar content being resonsible for weight gain is misplaced. Sugar causes weight gain mainly because of its effect on your insulin levels. Large amounts of sugar spike insulin levels, and when insulin levels are high, your body tends to store fat. That is what lead to the whole creation of the Glycemic Index. Foods with a high GI rating causes more rapid insulin spikes. Fruits, although they contain fair amounts of sugar, are not high on the glycemic index. They do not cause rapid, high, insulin spikes. Most fruits contain fiber which is a natural reducer of insulin, and is very effective at aiding in fat loss. Fruit is very healthy and consuming 3-6 serving daily will not hurt your weight loss in a properly structured diet.

Eat two fruit per day. More than that will likely cause bloating and may tax your liver.
Eat more vegetables than fruit, about 4-6 serving per day.
Fruit in itself is healthy and will not casue your diet to fail. Eating too many calories is what casues diets to fail. It makes little difference to where these extra calories come from. If you eat more that you use, you will gain weight.

Yep, everything in moderation. You need fruit, you need vegetables, you need grains and you need protein etc... I will, however, eat a little more fruits and veggies after eating a greasy meal when I go out. This helps flush out any unecessary fat from settling into position! :)

I wish it was true but eating fruit and vegetables after a greasy (or any other) meal will not help to flush out any fat or prevent it from depositing in your body. Fat accumulation occurs when we eat more calories than we use for energy and maintainance regardless of whether the source of these calories is a greasy meal or a bowl of fruit. If eating fruit or vegetables would prevent this none of us would be overweight and the miracle solution to weight loss would be here. Boy, I wish it was that easy!

It works different for everyone----But I can say it works wonders for me, but of course exercise really helps as well.

I think it's the other way around unless you have an absolutely different physiology than the rest of us. I'd say it's exercise that does wonders and perhaps eating fruit and vegetables, instead of something fatty, helps.

Fresh fruit is not going to cause weight gain. Yes, the poster, who eats fruit to try and flush out fat is partically correct. Fruit does contain sugar, but it also contains lots of water and fiber. There was a blurb in the news recently that eating fruits and vegetables that are high in fiber actually stick to the fat in the meals and out it comes in the other end....It doesn't come out in liquid form. If you eat too much fruit you will wind up with diahrea, especially too many apples or apple cider. (Not apple juice, that's different.) There is a lot less sugar in fruit than there is in candy, sugared cereal, and granola bars. Fruit can also help you fill up, so you don't eat as much food at your meal. That's why there is a grapefuit diet and an apple diet. Ever watch a skinny person eat? Sure there are days they seem like they eat what ever they want, but you will catch them eating lots of fruit. Eating out at restaurants will help you gain weight, because they use lots of cheap fats, cheap cuts of fatty meat, and salt. What you really need to consider is how many calories are you taking in and how much exercising are you doing.

Sugar does not make you gain Weight.
Excess Calories do regardless of where they come from.
The Arguement People use about Insulin spikkes is Bogus. I am Diabetic and I see an Endocrinolgist Regularily. I was actually talking him about this very topic the other day. Insulin will only Store Fat if there are excess calories and the Amount of Insulin has absolutely no effect on how much fat is stored.
Fruit will not stop you from losing any weight unless you are eating so much that you are eating too many calories.
Fruit is something you should probably eat more of as most fruits will fill you up more on relatively lower calories.
I cant Say this enough. Suger Spikes/Insulin Levels have Zero effect on your Weight.
The Idea that it does has been Used and abused by the Makers of Commercial Diet plans. They have taken a truth (Insulin is the Hormoane that allows the body to store fat) and Twisted it.

That's the right way to do it: 2 servings of fruit and 5-6 servings of vegetables is what I always recommend. By the way, congratulations on the awsome weight loss. You must be doing a lot of things right!
