First let me say that this is my first visit to these boards and reading what some of you have been through is absolutely awful. I hope your pain can be controlled to some degree and that you are getting some comfort and support from these boards.

Anyway, for the past week or so, I've had blood in my urine (visible, it's the color of tea). I've had some pain in my left back and side, but it only happens after eating a good restaurant meal. I went to the uro and was scheduled for a kidney ultrasound and cystoscopy. Yesterday I had the kidney US done and it showed the left kidney has urine backed up in it. The ultrasound person said she couldn't see any tumors. She also did a quick US on my bladder and again no tumors. My cystoscopy is scheduled in 8 days. I asked, "Now what happens?" and she said the Dr. would call me after looking at the results. The only thing that happened so far is that the lab called and said there is no sign of infection from my urine sample.

Is the assumption here that I have a kidney stone blocking the urine from flowing out of my kidneys and that I just need to pass it? I've called the Dr.'s office, but he hasn't returned my call, so I'm guessing it's nothing serious. I thought kidney stones were really painful, but I have no pain. I am afraid that as it really starts passing, then I'll be doubled over here at work. How long can urine be backed up in your kidney?
