I have had bloating off/on for about 5 years. Four years ago I had a suspicious looking ovary removed, but ended up a luteul cyst. Now, I've been having a simple cyst monitored for a year and a half, and in the last few months have been having slight off/on pain in that area with no changes in cyst size(2 cm.). Lately, my abdominal bloating is so bad I get short of breath, and my bowels may move once a day or every other day, but besides that, I don't pass gas or nothing moves(sorry!). I was wondering if the bloating of ovarian cancer is related to the size of the tumor, or the hormone that it may be producing. This might help me understand my bloating. I can't imagine a 2 c.m. cyst taking up so much space that it displaces intestines!!
I went a year and three months (last year) without a period, thought I was in menopause, doctor said probably so, and then spontaneously started my period again! I'm 46. Don't know if that info makes a difference.
Thanks for any explanations!

Hi
I have just missed a period and am worried about ovarian cancer. Ever since I have been worried about the misssed period and read up on what it can be, my stomach is sreally bloated. I only have to eat a small amount of food and it really swells. I am 40. Have you found anything else out?

No, I haven't found any information out since asking this question. I thought someone that may have had ovarian ca. may have heard about the reason for bloating at some point in their disease. But I guess not.

I just recently had an ovarian cyst removed that was a dermoid tumor and non cancerous thank goodness. I did have pain but that was from the cyst trying to turn. I also had another inflammation at the base of the ovary that is ok, they went and ahead and investigated while they were inside. Now if you are having bloating, difficulty using the restroom, etc have you had your colon checked? I am asking this because my mother in law was having this problem. I do not mean to scare you but it was from colon cancer. I would ask your doctor about these symptoms and possibly go to get a 2nd opinion or maybe a gastrointestineal doctor to get that checked as well. If you are unsure please ask questions, this is your health and that is what is most important.

In fact, I just had a colonoscopy done two weeks ago, and everything was fine in the g.i. department. Thanks for the input anyway! I'm feeling this all boils down to a hormone issue, that's why I was curious if the bloating from ca. was a hormone issue(since bloating is a big issue with ovarian ca.). I have noticed when I am pretty bloated, it gets worse in my 3rd week of my period month. I don't know if my cyst is putting out extra hormone as it is, and then in the 3rd week extra hormone is getting out also, making it all worse. If that's the case, I'd like to know WHAT hormone is doing this!

Sue,
I wish I knew the answer to that question. Have you asked your doctor about it? I am glad that you got checked out with the colonoscopy. :) Please call your doctor and ask them.
