I was just recently persribed Bentyl for stomach cramps because I get them alot, very severe, so they wanted to start me on bentyl for the stomach cramps, I haven;t used it yet, I wanted to see if it worked for anyone else who takes it for stomach cramps, and if it works good.

it does work but if you can ask for LEVSIN S/L take that..small pill yu put under your tongue and let dissolve. worked best for me and i would get very painful colon spasms.,.....now i'm preg and can't take ANYTHING! don't you wish there was a cure for this rather than just a take it when you need it????

Hi....I've used it for ulcerative colitis cramps and discomfort for over 17 years.

I started at 10mg, and for the past 2+ years have been using 20mg dosage.

What's the dosage the doc prescribed?

It can make you feel a bit "mellow", and I do find that my eyes get a bit lazier.

I think it's an awesome med and works well for me.

my doc gave me awhile ago and he thinks i have ibs but i'm getting tested to see what exacly i have. i don't really like benytl it works but not that great.not sure how many mg he gave me. my dad has what you have and he and me both take this all natural stuff that works better then anything i have tried so far. i would rather take natural stuff then prescriptions because you don't know if you will have damge or side effects later on in life.

well its an all natural aloe pills, there are aloe mp plus, aloellite, digestnol. they help alot but you have to be willing to pay between 137-180 a bottle and you get 270 pills per bottle. you only can get them from their website. me and my dad take them daily and seem to work very well for my dad. he has ulcerative colitis bad and he feels great now. not sure what i got yet but will soon....david

Im currently taking 10mg's 4 times a day, and so far I think they have worked great, because after eating a decent meal before, I would get stomach cramps so bad, that it would bring me to my knees, and I'm a big guy. The cramps were so intense that I would vomit from the pain. I take them a half hour to 45 minutes before I'm going to eat, and I haven't had any cramps at all yet since starting them. I also suffer from major constipation as well, so I don't want to get severely backed up either. Because the side effect said that there can be constipation, and I felt un easy about that, plus I have to watch out because I'm on Reglan too, and they are the opposite of Bentyl.

All I want is to have a normal BM without cramping and constipation, and I'll be a happy guy, but everything the doc has tried for constipation has given me major cramps as well, such as laxatives, Ive tried Miralax and everything, with no success, all Im taking now is stool softener's.

Hi......sometimes spasming can cause constipation....and using Bentylol will help with that helping with that.

Sounds as though your doc has a good plan.....and taking it 45 minutes before meals will greatly help with the spasming.

When do you take the reglan?

Curious...what kind of foods do you eat?

I've been on it for almost a week now, and nothing but positives for it so far, thanks for the info irishdude, but I just can't afford that kind of money right now, and quincy, I take the Reglan 10 mg's 4 times a day as well, I just take the Bentyl a few hours apart so they won't interact with eachother. My doc is great, he basically gives me whatever I need, and ask him for, or a new pill with my stomach to see how it helps.

hey guys what exacly do you guys have-disease wise? my dad has colitis and bowel disorders run in my family. so i'm going to the GI doctor on the 23rd to see what exacly i have. my doc says IBS. i do take benytl but its only 10mg and i usually only take it when i need it or just once a day. i'm going to try taking 2 at once like my doc said if the pain is that bad and maybe try taking it before i eat too. i'm just affraid they will make me costipated and i was once years ago for 5 days and i don't wanna ever go through that again. what drives me nuts is that they don't have a cure for this stuff or don't really know what exacly causes the pain. i hope someday they will because i'm so tired of these pains i'm about to give up. i can't eat as much as i use to cause i get pains more now then ever before and i'm losing alittle weight too.

Hi dude....I have UC (proctosigmoiditis)...diagnosed over 17 years ago. My meds are Asacol (6 daily) and Salofalk enemas (for flares and tapered to maintenance dosage). No flares have been as bad as my initial ones. I'm doing very well keeping inflammation at a minimum....considering that long-term UC increases the risk of cancer. I've also been recently diagnosed with liver disease associated with UC...primary sclerosing cholangitis (as per a liver MRI)...but recent blood tests have given a connection to Primary Biliary Cirrhosis...a bit of a conumdrum, but the med treatment for both is URSO...so I'm on that at a low dosage until a more definitive diagnosis becomes obvious. Having either also increases the risk of bowel/liver cancer....so I believe the 5ASA meds have been doing a darned good job at keeping inflammation down.

One 10mg dicyclomine daily will not cause you to become constipated. If you do have UC, it might just be limited to the lower part, and that could be why you are having such discomfort.

Just out of curiosity....what would your daily food intake consist of? Are you having other symptoms such as rectal pain or urgency upon bms?

You could also have IBS with UC....but "assuming" isn't the way to go especially when bowel disorders/disease runs in your family. It's good you'll be seeing a GI soon.

Please let us know the outcome.

wow seems like you have alot of problems. i so hope i have just simple and i don't have to take alot of meds cause i hate taking pills. if they are natural pills i don't mind taking them at all. yeah i do take 10mg but my doc yesterday said i can double up to make 20mg or he said i can take them before i eat which i didn't know. at first i thought you could only take it once a day. i do get lower pain sometimes can it can hurt pretty bad. i aso get a good amount of gas and heartburn but my heartburn has been pretty good lately. well i use to eat alot of junk since i'm still kind of young. i'm 25 by the way. but my dad has UC and he tells me not to eat nuts, corn, caffeen, chocolite and not alot of sugar. so now i'm trying to eat good healthy stuff. i don't have rectal pain just stomach pain. sometimes the pain makes me have diarea and man when i have that i gotta go or i'll have a problem if you know what i mean. what kind of food t do you eat and do you know what foods help with the problem?...david

WOW, I thought I was constipated before, but since taking the Bentyl, I don't ever want to go through what I had to the other day in the bathroom, and the sad part is I've experienced constipation at it's worst. Sometimes it takes we 3 weeks just to have a bowel movement, I dread going to the bathroom, but then sometimes I have bad cramps so I need the bentyl. Plus I haven't even gone up to 40mg's yet. I also have Liver disease Quincy, I have auto Immunne hepatitis, more woman get that than men. I also have acid reflux disease. All this at the age of 24. I was already Liver transplanted at the age of 9, now I come to find out I have this Liver disease. Oh well, there's nothing I can to about it.

Hi Shane....wow, you had a transplant at age 9? What happened?

Autoimmune hepatitis...how sad to hear you have that to endure as well.

I was tested for autoimmune hep as well...negative. I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with it and what a shock to see how quickly her symptoms presented even though the doc said it was probably in the making for about 12 years (since she had her first child).

Is there a reason the docs gave you that you're constipated? Have you had regular colonoscopies and biopsies to make sure nothing else is going on in there?

Is it basically because you have slow colonic motility or lack of peristalsis?

What med are you taking for reflux? I have it too...I take ranitidine when needed...seems to work pretty well.

For the PSC (or PBC as now might be suspected)..I'm on URSO. I'm hoping it will keep things at bay.

Too much for a young person as you to deal with...that's for sure.

I have taken Bentyl for almost 10 years now, seems to be the only medicene that works for me. I have tried Levsin, that worked for a short period of time.

irishdude,
What are the natural supplements you use that work better than bentyl. I'd like to try them.
