WoW! My baby can do awsome things, like bringing her foot to her ear without using her hands to lift it. She is 5 months, but when she is older I want to put her in gymanstics. What can I do to keep her flexible? Is there any other mothers out there with a child in a sport? How were they treated by the other team members? Thanks for reading.

Hi! My little one is flexible, also. It is most likely a result of the low muscle tone that most kids with DS are born with, in which case she will probably stay more flexible than most kids. I have read of many children getting involved with sports...special olympics has gymnastic competitions. I think it would be great to get your daughter involved. It is important to remember, though, that some children with DS are prone to instability in the neck area, so be sure to have her examined by a doctor and xrays done.
Good luck, and have fun watching her grow!!!

I have an older brother with Down Syndrome (he's 35) and he is still incredibly flexible. I always envied the way he could sit on the floor practically doing yoga, while I suffered tight muscles.
Good luck with gymnastics!
