in the last five days my nine year old daughter has had two seizures. the basics have been done. no brain tumors or illness has been detected. i guess just asking is this normal for epilepsy to show up at this age. it has been an emotional rollacoaster cause i have yet to hear the cause or treatment.

i would first respond by saying that epilepsy can show up at any age, and more often then not it shows up in early childhood. i first started having seizures when i was five yrs old. so i would say that it is not unusual for it to just now be showing up. and about everything being normal and no causes yet, i would say the main test that you should have done is an eeg. my mri came out normal and in my case my epilepsy is a genetic thing. but many times something will show on an eeg ( it did for me...it showed i have generalized epilepsy). i hope you get everything figured out.

The majority of siezure disorders don't have an identifiable cause. There might be an initial trigger, but the actual cause is "idiopathic", or cause unknown....frustrating, but at the same time, reassuring that there isn't a tumor or other brain abnormality that is worse.... it's hard to not have hard, fast answers, especially with a young one.
