View Full Version : Speech therapy - finding a good therapist?

My daughter is six months and is doing very well - but I have been told that due to an asymetrical moving soft palate (and the fact that she has DS) that speech will be more challenging for her and we should begin therapy right away.
DOes anyone have a few good pointers on how to identify a really good speech therapist. Besides the obvious like experience - I didn't know if there were any other things I could ask my therapists to see if he/she is tuned in to my daughter needs. ANY advice or help would be REALLY appreciated!

Hello. My son is 9 years old and we started all of his therapy at a very young age as well. The only advice per say that I could give would just be also the obvious as in if the therapist and your child take to one another and work well together. If not it's going to be a nightmare. For one reason or a nother speech therapists is the one that we had such a problem with. Just go with your instinct as a parent. See how your child takes to the therapist and how you do as well. Your as much a part of the therapy as they are. (Which I'm sure you've already found out.) Well good luck to you. If you'd like to e-mail me my e-mail is smooreac@hotmail.com.
