Hello Everyone. I am 31 weeks pregnant with twins and have just been told there is a possibility that one twin has DS. I realize that not many people will be in a similar situation (twins & DS); however, I am seeking DS specific information in order to best prepare our family for this possibility.
A number of the messages on this board have talked about Early Intervention, when that should begin, and the benefits it can provide. I have an opportunity to begin assisting my child right from birth and would like to find out as much information as I can. If anyone can elaborate on what Early Intervention encompasses, I would greatly appreciate the response.

Hi! Congratulations on TWINS!!! Here are a few of my favorite sites on DS information: www.ndss.org (http://www.ndss.org) www.ndsccenter.org (http://www.ndsccenter.org) www.ds-health.com (http://www.ds-health.com) www.disabilitysolutions.org (http://www.disabilitysolutions.org) (a free publication for families touched by Down syndrome and related disabilities).
I am sure you will find some information about Early Intervention at one of these sites, but thought I would give a little information about it here. Locally, Early Intervention includes Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapies, as well as a teacher to encourage educational development. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at masmiles1969@msn.com! I'd be glad to share any information I can!
