View Full Version : There's Still Some Grandma Left (Happy Post!)

Hi, I'm Jess' son. I've posted here a few times before.

I thought I would make a change of pace and give a humorous update on my granny who has been in the NH now for a few months.

My grandma was always a fireball of independence. Lately, it seems to have all faded. But...

Last night, we visited her and mom gave her a bath and SHE HATES IT.
She feels so embarrassed , argues with them that she's already washed up, etc.

After they're done, my little granny, about 4'11 comes out powdered up, in a warm beautiful gown, looking CLEAN and wonderful... and in a fit of independence and anger at my mother... who is holding a hairdryer, ready to dry her hair....

leans her head over the air conditioner in the room and proceeds as if she's going to let her hair dry by the cold air to piss my mom off.

:jester:

This is the Granny I remember!

It was so awesome seeing her do that.

Fun times.

Oh Jess's_son .. what a treasure you have in your Grandma!!

Isn't it great when a little bit of the "tried and true" personality peeks through?

I know of a little dear lady, who can be .. hmm .. feisty is a word. She will tell anybody who approaches her what a "stupid *******" they are (she holds NOTHING back) and to "Stick it up your >>>> insert that word here<<<<<" .. yet the other day, had a fall and turned into a little girl needing help from Mummy ... she was so sweet, so loving, so needy .. it was nice NOT to hear profanity .. yet an hour later, when she had forgotten she had had the fall, back to the 'safe and sound' verbal abuse .... LOL

Enjoy this small moments with Grandma .. write them down as you have for prosperity's sake ...

Hugs

Oh, I do enjoy them. Writing them down is a good tip!
She was such a trip last night. I was so appreciative that it was a good visit.
Sometimes it's really hard and other times, like last night, it's great.

My mother (Jess22) goes all the time still, but, I have cut my own visits down a lot, mostly because it's so rough seeing her in such a state of confusion and talking about things that don't make sense or that I didn't know about and don't know how to respond to.

But it's just lovely when you go and you actually get to see someone who you thought this disease took away. So everyone remember, they may be nutty and difficult, but they're still in there somewhere.

I have to say though - it still murders my heart when she asks me to stay the night with her, "We'll drink pop and watch TV." That's something she always said to me at her house and I would stay. :(

But yes, I'm not going to think of that right now, haha, this is a happy post.

Good to hear from you! And really good to hear funny little stories. I'm glad you can still see bits of the grandma you love and remember so dearly.

Love, Barb
