Sponsor mom8times 06-20-2002, 04:24 AM You got me!! Now I can hardly wait for Amy to wake up so I can check HER hands! Tifferbelle 06-22-2002, 11:14 AM My daughter Audrey has a crease on only one hand as well. Strangely, my mother has one on one hand too. She never noticed until Audrey was born and we all started looking at our hands! ALINEACROSS 06-24-2002, 10:19 PM Hi Info about the simeon line, which was used as a genetic indicator up until genetic testing, can be found at http://users.breathermail.net/chiro/chiro/dermatoglyphics Not all people with ds have the line it is just more common than the general population. Not many people even know about it today - even parents of children with ds. You might find my song interesting. Please feel free to pass it along.God Bless, Deb Sardone Dear Friend, Below please find a copy of the lyrics to A LINE ACROSS HIS HAND a song about Down syndrome. I am sending this to you because you were either listed on a Health Provider/Down syndrome web site, bulletin board or are listed as a service provider. I wrote these words down a year and a half ago after I heard them in a dream. In the dream it was a country song sung by a man with a deep, emotional voice. When I woke from the dream I immediately wrote down what I remembered. It took me a pain staking month to fill in the blanks. It is my hope that someday the lyrics will land in the hands of the person who is meant to write the music. Currently several musicians are working on music to fit these lyrics, if you know of anyone who would also like to try please forward them this letter. I am a Special Education teacher who has had the privilege of working with and loving many children with Down syndrome. I do not have a child of my own with Down syndrome. It is my hope that this song will help people understand that all children lives should be celebrated. I apologize in advance if you receive several copies of this letter from me. I have sent out many emails in the last few weeks and I cannot record which email addresses have been sent before. I do ask that if you are moved by these words that you forward them to friends and family, print copies and request that they be included in newsletters from schools and Down syndrome service organizations. I only request that you include thecopyright and my email address. Thank you. Peace, Deb Sardone A LINE ACROSS HIS HAND by Deborah L. Sardone Copyright 2000 ALINEACROSS@AOL.com In memory of Rene and Rita Marcott The day my son was born the sun shone in the sky My life would change forever and here’s the reason why You see my son is different, things did not go as we planned For my son was born with a line across his hand A line across his hand A line across his hand Things did not go as we planned Because of the line across his hand. They said that he would be slow too learn and never read or write. But when he took his first steps it was a special night. They said he’d never be a man and always be a burden But he’d show them wrong, it was the one thing I was certain A line across his hand A line across his hand When his hand’s held in mine I can’t see that line across his hand Oh how very hard it was to learn to tie his shoe There were days we thought it was something he’d never ever do But then one day he made the bow up right and neat Oh, his life ain’t always easy but his victories are sweet A line across his hand A line across his hand That shoe lace didn’t care there was a line across his hand I always dreamed we’d play with a baseball and a bat but in our life together we jog the High School track. There are many things that he can do and things that he can not. He’s much more than the sum total of the syndrome that he’s got. A line across his hand A line across his hand Don’t judge who he is by that line across his hand. If I had the power to change his life I’m not sure what I’d do But his life has been a blessing ‘tho I’ve shed a tear or two I love my son more then I believed all those years ago I guess in this life we do reap what we do sow A line across his hand A line across his hand Doesn’t change the love you feel in side that line across his hand Now my son is grown and holds a job and has a lady friend He is proud and kind this message I will send A line across his hand A line across his hand They were wrong, I know that now this boy of mine’s a man mom8times 06-25-2002, 10:51 PM Well, I finally checked my Amy's hands. She has 2 creases on her right hand, like we all usually do, but one is lighter than the others. On her left hand, one crease. Imagine that! I never noticed this before! What a beautiful song, Deb! All it needs is a melody. Hope we hear it someday soon. Hugs Peggy [This message has been edited by mom8times (edited 06-25-2002).] |
