That happens to me pretty regularly. I'll be laying in bed, about 5-10 minutes after I've "gone to sleep" when my whole body or just a leg or arm shakes. It just shakes once and that's it, which is enough to wake me up. Sometimes it happens several times during the night. Does that sound like what happens to you?

As far as I can tell it's something it's muscle tension caused by anxiety. Believe me, countless times I've kept thinking it's a seizure, but it's never caused any harm and I notice that it only happens when my anxiety is bad.
I've found that stretching/tensing my muscles before bed and then relaxing them tends to keep this "jerk" away. Try different sleeping positions too, that helped me.

Try looking up "hypnagogic myoclonus". That is probably what you (and 70% of the population) are experiencing. It happens to me all the time and is completely harmless!

I've had several of these things thru' the years (we call them "myoclonic jerks" ;) in our house) and they are not pleasant. Not dangerous either.

Dont worry about this gxpark It happens to me sometimes too. They are harmless jerks not seizures. When a persons body jerks it doesnt always mean seizure.Sometimes when people faint you can visably see them slightly shaking or jerking and it doesnt always mean seizure its still just a faint. This stuff your having right when you slip off to sleep is nothing but a jerk its happen to millions of us and nothing is wrong.

gxpark,
Have you ever seen a dog or cat jerk right when it falls asleep and then wake up? I thave seen my cat do it many times and she seems to live through them. I think our body parts do little jerks when we are in REM sleep and sometimes they wake us up. It has happened to me before, and I have seen my boyfriend do it also and usually go right back to sleep.
