View Full Version : Back Pain

Yet another quesion . . .

I've been having persistant back pain for the last four months or so that is gradually getting worse. The pain is in the LOW LOW part of my back, almost around my tailbone area. They feel almost like horrible menstral pains in my back. . .or as I read one woman decribe in another post, mile back labor. My hips have also been very sore and at times I get a radiating pain from my back to my hips, even down through my legs. I have an extremely high tolerance to pain (three natural births, NO meds) but these pains get bad enough that they will stop me in my tracks, take my breath away, and bring tears to my eyes. My general practicioner felt around and said she didn't feel anything except for spasms in my hips, take alieve for two weeks and see if that helps. If not, we would do xrays to see if something else is going on. I also occasionally get weakness/pain in my legs that feels sort of like when you have the flu and your body aches.

None of this really worried me until I had the bad bap, bad biopsy. Now I am worried that my back pain may have to do with my female organs. I talked to my ob/gyn nurse about it and she said that what I have (severe dysplasia) would definately NOT cause this pain, but that the area I am describing is where my female organs are. So, I'm wondering if there could be somehting else going on that is unrelated to the dysplasia and if so, what tests should I ask for?

Monday I am making an appointment for back xrays in order to rule out muscoskelatal causes.

Just wondering if anyone as any ideas on what could be causing this type of pain.

I'm having similar pains, and it's not fun. (And I'm not even as stoic as you are, woman, three! natural! childbirths! I had one, all back labor, and eventually gave in to the lure of a small dose of fentynyl because I wasn't dilating "due to pain stress" so they said ... so major props to you!) I don't know how you've stood it for four months. I've only had this pain about two weeks and it's some of the worst since childbirth (though I must admit it's not as bad as neck pain after whiplash ... that was some bad mofo pain).

Curious if your periods are regular. Along with the back pain I've noticed that my periods are acting up -- not severely, but my whole life and even after the periods returned after my son was born, it's been like clockwork 28 days. It stayed that way after it returned for about 6 months (it came back about 1-1/2 years after childbirth, lucky me). Then starting about a year ago it's been funny, ranging from 26-29 days.

Two months ago it was very late, so my husband and I got to play "what if" for a day or two, shaking our heads about "how can we possibly have another baby now ..." (I'm 43)! Last month it was more or less on time, but this month it's almost a whole week early. Weird, at least for me.

Also my periods had gotten very light before my son was conceived -- I wasn't even sure if I was fertile, they were so sparse -- and they returned to that level when they came back, but they've been getting steadily heavier. Last month I did a double take one or two times, I couldn't believe I'd shed that much -- I started taking an iron supplement in case of anemia, which I had during pregnancy.

Eight months ago I had a mildly abnormal pap, and immediately followed up with a clean colposcopy/random sample biopsy. Re-tested in late May and the pap was normal. My GP actually recommended I come back in *two years* for another pap, but I think that's insane and am going to go back for another one this month if I can. Plus an exam to find out what the h e double toothpicks is going on with my gut, back, hips and groin. Ouch.

If it's reassuring at all, I researched to find any link between low back pain and cervical cancer -- it sounds like it would not be the only symptom. You would, I think, have more symptoms than just that one. (Anyone more knowledgable than me please jump in and corroborate or correct me.) I've seen some other messages recommend that people with multiple symptoms go and see a gyn/onc instead of a gp or regular gynecologist, because they know better what to look for.

Okay, I'm blabbering. I know you're looking for "answers" but this is just a fellow sufferer saying "I'm there with ya". Take care. I took a long hot bath this morning, thanks to my DH giving me some breathing room with toddler care. It helped a bit. :)

Hi, If your pain is that low in the back, I would guess it might be sciatica.
That pain can be crippling sometimes. The pain starts near or around your tailbone and might radiate to your buttocks and down you leg. Mine bothers me around the upper thigh area when it is acting up. Good luck
