Hi everyone!

I have been reading the posts here for a couple of weeks and I really like the supportive atmosphere. I have been bulimic for about 4 years but have been obsessed with food and weight almost my whole life. I just recently started seeing a counselor and she has me doing a 12-step program. She also referred me to a doctor who put me on Zoloft for binging and depression. Is there anyone else here who has ever been on Zoloft for bulimia?

God Bless You.

I was put on a series of medications to help with my ED. Zoloft was just one of 3 that I took on a daily basis for a long time, that with therapy I am where I am today. I don't act out in my ED but the thoughts do remain. Some days are better than others. Good luck. Like I said with therapy and meds I've been ED free for a few years now.

Welcome Manno. I don't know much about Zoloft, they usually put bulimics on Prozac but I was allergic to it this time and they switched me to Lexapro. Even with the change, it dampens the urge to binge enough to let my willpower overcome it. I am much less obsessed with food. It's still a struggle but now I am winning, not losing.

Hi tallycat

Thank you for your reply. I was on Prozac for about 6 weeks but it gave me a terrible twitch in my eye. My doctor said I probably could not handle a higher dose. I stopped going to him because all he wanted to do was prescribe me medicine and it seemed like he could not wait for me to stop talking. I feel like in order to overcome this eating disorder I need to talk to someone about where this is all coming from. I don't think I can beat this thing with medicine alone.

Thank you for your reply GloBones. It is so encouraging to hear that people do finally get to a point where they are back in control of their lives. I can not wait for the day when 5 seconds passes and I don't think about food or my weight.

Hey MANNO--

I've been on Zoloft for a couple weeks now, so it's really too hard to tell whether it's working. I have serious depression and anxiety issues too, and the Zoloft is supposed to help with those issues.

Ever since I started Zoloft I haven't b/p'd at all!!! This is my 15th day free. I haven't had any urges.

So it's helping with my OCD-type bulimic behavior in particular, although not lessening my anxiety levels.

Hi sunshine18
I am really hoping that the zoloft helps stop the urge to b/p. My will power alone is just not enough. Congradulations on 15 days of not b/p-ing. That is such an accomplishment! I also have serious depression and anxiety issues. Most of my depression comes from my recent weight gain and my constant worrying about if I will ever be able to overcome my eating disorder. Sometimes I think if I could just get down to a weight that makes me happy and stop bingeing and purging all my other problems would just melt away.

God Bless You:angel:

Hey again MANNO--

I really, really hope it works for you...it sounds like we're a lot alike in the issues we're dealing with. I'm sure that you know that losing weight won't REALLY make you happy, right? :-) That's hard for me to believe, too, but it's true. I've been various weights these past few years and have noticed no correlation between weight and happiness.

We can do this together! You're right, will power is not enough, and people without eating disorders don't really understand that (in my opinion). What I am noticing with the Zoloft is that triggering events that used to automatically prompt me to b/p (fighting with family, for example), don't do that anymore! I don't feel that compulsion, that strong desire/urge.

Keep us updated!
