During pregnancy do they test for HPV? I had a cyst on my vagina while pregnant and after delivery my Dr just cut it off. He sent it to be tested and I never heard about the results not even at my six week apt. Would they have tested the cyst for HPV cells? I'm a wreck. I was date raped in 2004 and became pregnant. I know they test for STDs during pregnancy but now HPV is all in the news and TV so now I am so worried that I have this virus and not even know it. Would my pap test have shown if I had HPV two years ago? Also, my first Dr appt during my pregnacy was at like 20 days pregnant. I was very early. I changed doctors around 6.5 months and I'm not sure if my new Dr did a pap. I'm so scared. I go Wednesday for an annual exam. At my six week my Dr didn't even check me. We talked in his office about BCP. Now I'm in a wonderful relationship (looking towards marriage) and I'm so afraid I have this virus and I may pass it to my future husband. We do not have sex.

I had a cyst on my cervix that the doctor removed during my colposcopy. I am high risk HPV positive, but my gyn told me that one had nothing to do with the other and not to worry about the cyst. She just drained it. I was more worried about the other biopsies she removed at the same time. She said the lesions and cyst were 2 differnet things.
Usually the way you find out you have HPV is by getting a "bad" pap, or warts, if you have that strain of the virus. Don't panic though. The good news is your paps are good, and you tested neg for all other STD's. 80% of the sexually active population has some form of HPV, so it doesn't make you less of a person. You may contract it, and your body fight if off before you are ever even aware you have it... Just continue getting your annuals to stay on top of things, as it can take years to surface and cause dysplasia.

If you're pregnant, you probably have HPV. Most sexually active adults do have HPV. However, you don't need to panic. It won't affect your baby and as long as you get your Pap smears regularly and follow any treatment advice if you have an abnormal result, you'll be 100% fine as well.

I am not pregnant. I had a baby last June 2005. Neither doctor told me I had HPV. I was date raped and I know I was STD free after the rape. My doctor did a full sreening as they normally do during pregnancy. I was just curious if I could have it now two years later. I go Wednesday for a pap smear.
Also, what if both people were virgins? Then how can you have HPV? I was not a virgin before the date rape I am just curious. The man I am with now is a virgin and I know this to be true.

If both people were virgins- there shouldn't be a problem. However, HPV is so contagious that you don't actually have to have intercourse to contract it. You can get it from hand-to-genital, or genita- to- mouth contact.
I am also not real sure that 2 years ago they would've done the HPV genetic test on you. You could request to see a copy of your medical records and labs to see what all tests were performed. You have to be proative in your own healthcare. You are your own best advocate!
Like I said, you may have contracted one form or another and may never know it because your body's immune system fights it off, or you may not know for several years until it causes an abnormal pap, and cervical cellular changes. At this point you have absolutely no reason to worry. Just get your paps every year and like Timber said if anything does occur, treat it accordingly.
