Does anyone know if Imitrex increases your heart rate. Hubby has been in bed since Wed with a headache. He keeps a close watch on his blood pressure and it is good but heart rate is 114 and that is at rest. He has done nothing but go to the bathroom eat and be in bed or sit in his recliner. Just wondering???

I have been told that I cannot take Imitrex due to a rapid heart rate that I take meds for.In fact most of the meds on the market for migraines I cannot take because of that heart problem. Did you give your doctor a call? He will know what is going on.

I kind of thought that may be the cause. When you call the Dr. we only get a recording and we have had a message in two weeks ago this past Thursday and they still haven't returned our call. We have been since April trying to get into a neurosurgeon after a MRI showed all this pathology in his neck. Was trying to let our Dr. know that he still hadn't gotten in could he recommend someone else. Am in the thinking stages of changing Dr.
We chose this Dr. as ours retired. Haven't been real satisfied but kept thinking it was because he was new but finding out more and more. Front desk at the office can't even get their calls answered and has to go back to the desk. Home health patients can't talk to any staff either so are asking their nurses to call for them and the RN's get the answer machine also. I could go on but no I haven't called the Dr. don't know if he gives a hoot. I know hubby takes a lot of imitrex when he has these bad HA. Stays within the limit on dosage tho. Sorry I unloaded.

I know there is a limit to how many you can take in a month. And it's not a lot! I believe you can only take, like, a few a week. And one of the s/e listed in the pamphlet is rapid heart beat. I know the manufacture cautions users with heart trouble or heart arythmias to not use it. I'm not a doctor, I'm just telling you what the literature said. Perhaps you would benefit from doing some researching into the drug? I did a simple google on it and then decided it wasn't for me because I have a heart murmur and just didn't want to risk it. Hope your husband gets better.

Thank you all. That was what it was. Guess he had to many this week. He has been up yesterday and today. We even had a steady rain and the pressure didn't drop much so he has made it thru. I tell you sometimes the ones with the headache need comfort and the others of us need someone to talk to. Looking forward to see what the NS is going to suggest.
