Hi everyone I am new to this board and am a gerd sufferer. I am at my wits end with all the pain I'm in. I had a scope done in May and was told that I have a huge ulcer in my esophagus. I've been on nexium since and have had little relief from the pain betweem my breast. I am so depressed because there doesn't seem like there are any options to this condition. Surgery sounds iffy with some people being helped and others not. I can't sleep and life some times doesn't seem worth living if I am to be in this pain every day. i've tryed aciphex, prilosec and had some relief from nexium. but that did't last too long. I drink a papaya smoothie every day and watch what I eat no choc coffee tomatoe. I don't know what to do or where to turn as every option seems fruitless. I don't know if I can live like this especially when I read that people have this for yrs. with no relief. I'm 49 and was pretty healthy Please help!

I am new too, so welcome..I know how it feels to get frustrated, but you say that you have tried all these ppis, and it's only been since May..My cough just appeared one day too, in May..thought it was allergies..spent a ton of $ for testing..I finnally searched enough to figure out it was Gerd or now I see there is LPR..but my Aciphex did not fully kick in until about 2 weeks ago, and i started that early-mid June..so it does take along time to heal the damage.
I also battle with hyper thyroid, so believe me I know the feeling of hopelessness..if you are otherwise healthy, you have to hang in there..it's tough, but through the support here, and hopefully some relief coming, you can get through this. Just when I feel like I have had enough, I look around and see the blessings in my life, and know that for whatever reason, I was dealt this hand and I have to do all that I can to handle it

Yeah i had panic disorder before this and umm this has me crazy..living with gerd watching everything i eat and still be sick 5 years later.I have an erosion in my esphoagus you gotta watch out with that because it can turn into bad cells you know..Surgery flip the coin has a 90 percent sucess rate ok..People that come here or other boards complain because there part of the unlucky 10 percent..the others are living and not posting..the surgery has been around since 1939 its been perfected tweaked and now in the hands of a good surgeon, and your right for it just might work..im looking at this option hard, your so not alone..
