I have similar symptoms. My mouth gets dry every once in a while...not constantly... When that happens to me and I am at work I keep jolly ranchers with me to keep something in my mouth...I also try to drink tons of water..and I also have noticed that if you brush your teeth it seems to help. Are you on any medication? The nervous feeling, I have that constantly and I am paranoid that I am dying also. It's an awful feeling, but you must realize that it's only anxiety. I know its hard!! Have you been to the doctor? Therapist? I had a major panic attack about 4 months ago (never had that feeling before in my life!) and ever since then I have thought I was having a heart attack, brain tumor, dying, etc.. It's awful. I went to the psychiatrist and he prescribed me xanax. It helps when ever I have attacks...but it doesn't help all of the time. It's a great medication, though. If you're constantly worried, it might be generalized and you may need to see a doctor. Keep searching these posts they will help you get tips from other people in your shoes. Good luck!

thank you for the reply. i am on xanax xr 2mg. i currently tried to slowly taper off the medicine with my doctor and i got down to 1mg. When i was on 1 mg for about 2 weeks my anxiety has come back in full swing. I have had PA's since middle school and i am now 24 years old. I also have a thyroid problem. It goes hyper now and then. So i am constantly wondering why my thyroid does this. I always think its cancer. I am in such a nevous mood i cant even eat because i have no appetite, i think its caused by excessive worrying that i am dying. Do you think that could be the case. I dont see the Dr. for another week. It seems so far away.

Yep, when I have severe anxiety these days, it usually involves waking in the middle of the night with a racing heart. Sometimes my mouth is dry, but the loss of appetite is the scariest symptom for me. I've been forcing myself to eat but never feeling like I want to is taking a toll on me. Like you, my anxiety begins with obsessions about my health, so you are definitely not alone. Please keep us updated on your progress and let me know if you find a cure to the lack of appetite.

Oh, trust me, 4 1/2 years ago, I did think the loss of appetite was cancer. I had every possible gastro test done back then. This time, rather than needlessly put myself through all of that again, I'm trying to accept it's just my anxiety raging again. Still, I worry it could be something far worse. Hang in there.

Is weight loss also a symptom of anxiety?

yes...weight loss is definitly a sign of anxiety. My anxiety comes in spurts...it'll be real bad then kinda bad...then not there. But when it's bad I ALWAYS lose weight!!! But, you're 24..so more than likely you're healthy. Iknow that's hard to tell yourself...im the same way..im only 25 and I keep having to reassure myself that more than likely I dont have a heart condition, I dont have cancer, im not going crazy, ect. It's just the anxiety!!! Have you talked to your MD? Has he ruled everything out? Anxiery SUCKS. I know! keep us posted! Hang in there!

Hi,, Ive been reading your posts and I truly feel for you! When my anxiety first started back less than a year ago, I thought for sure I was dying, I mean I truly thought I was going to die, anyday. I couldn't eat, then I would try to eat and get sick to my stomach with just a little bite. I was losing weight like crazy, ( of course because I wasn't eating) My legs and arms would go numb, and feel really heavy, my body was like I couldn't wake up, like I was just on the verge of death,
I thought I had everything from cancer to brain tumor, to blood clot,, you name it, I thought I had it:dizzy: And still to this day, I stay dizzy, that scared me for the longest, but its stress, its anxiety.
Anxiety can do so much, mentally , physically, emotionally. It IS an ILLNESS. But the good thing is that it CAN be treated, hang in there, I know its tough, I still have my days when I just don't think I'll ever be ok. But you will, I am only 27 years old. So hang in there, stick with us here and YOU WILL get through this. Keep us posted,,

I have the same thing. my mouth gets really, really dry and when i drink it doesn't do anything to stop the dryness in my mouth. Anytime i go out, i have to take a bottle of water with me because whenever i have an episode it helps to calm me if i sit, relax and have a drink of water. I constantly wonder what is going on inside me?, why am i feeling this way?, how can i stop it? What if i die? but i think it is just the anxiety talking.

Thankyou for the replies. I do have anxiety but i also have a thyroid condition. For some reason it goes into hyper thyroid. But anyways as of now i have a MD appointment next monday but i feel like ill never make it until then. Last night i woke up in the middle of the night twice with 2 episodes of palpatations and a racing heart. Before i went to bed i had 2mg of xanax xr. So i tell myself i have to have cancer or a tumor on my adrenal glands or some rare disease because i am still having all these symptoms. I am constantly drinking water all day, i feel nervous inside, and i have no appetite. Thankyou guysfor listening it means alot. Especially when i hear that you had similar symptoms like the loss of appetite.

hey, i thought i'd weigh in on this. every nite about 5-6 am i start with the paps! it really scares me to death. i take .25 xanax at bed time & about 2 am & they still happen. yesterday my heart literaly was sore and hurt all day. i have hypothyroid also and high chlorestrol. my husband is convinced that mds are causing this problem and nothing can change his mind. today i went off all my mds except the xanax to try to prove once again its not them, its anxiety. i feel like a yo yo between & the drs. all my blood work is normal and within range for throid. i get depressed trying to please everyone and keep the peace. i lay in the bed after the paps start and doze until the next one hits, my heart feels like it races for minutes before it gets back into rythum again. i have had g.i.'s, echo, ekgs, stress tests, holter monitor done,
nothing found, but still have chest pain everyday, take prevacid sometimes, it dosen't really help either. will some one please tell me if this chest pain and am paps are normal fro anxiety.

Chest pain and heart palpitations are very normal. I used to get them when I was 19 from anxiety, and my heart/lungs are quite healthy.
As far as the dry mouth, I actually found that I was drinking TOO MUCH water. I kept thinking I was dehydrated etc. so kept drinking more and more. Finally my doctor told me it could be just anxiety causing it. Sure enough, I limited my water intake to a reasonable range and the dry mouth went away. Still have the anxiety though.

yes, I have to agree with the comment above about drinking too much water. I have noticed that too. More than likely you DONT have a rare disease either. I know it's easier to hear that than think it. You're not alone. Goodluck at the doctor!

bhawks you seem like you defenatly have anxiety but your thyroid can also do all that in itself and casue symptoms of anxiety did you know that it casues racing heart bp changes sweating eveything you described and it causes anxiety do you take anything for it....thats what i think is wrong with me a hormonal problem hopefully ill get my answers on friday i also have an ovarian cysts and thick lining down there im 23 ...last night i woke up with seve pains on my left side pelvic going into my stomach near my belly button my ovary is probablly about to blow up lol i am suppose to have an laparoscophy to see what the heck is going on but i cant until i know if i have a gland problem the problems we have ill tell you..i would advise all of you to go see an endocrine doctor just to make sure you dont have gland trouble becasue your glands control your whole body

the adrenals cause those symtoms too depending on if its over or underactive youll have differnt symptoms and the putitary gland controls all the other glands so if theres a problem with that you can develop a problem with all the rest of them thats what im sure i have its also effects skin heart bp temperature anxiety level goes up as far as heart goes one day youmay notice you have an extremly fast heart rate then next you may have a slow rate and low bp depending on if you re getting enough hormones that day or too little it can also make you light headed and dizzy if there out of bablance especially the adrenalns

If you persistently have dry mouth then you may want your doctor to check your thyroid. I went to an endocrinologist and my thyroid checked out fine. About 1-2 days later the dry mouth both my anxiety and dry mouth went away.
In any case, thyroid problems are easy to treat if that is the problem.

Dry mouth is only a symptom of hyperthyroidism, which most people do not get. Many of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism mirror that of anxiety (infact it can cause anxiety). The only sure way to know is a blood test, but most likely your thyroid is fine and it's just anxiety.
