CircusSquirrel - this is a response to comments made on another post. I am starting a new thread in order not to hijack Niki's thread.
It isn't my cardiologist that makes me cry - it is ALL doctors. I am a cry baby - I always have been and I can't stop it. I cry when I get frustrated. I am so frustrated over all of this stuff all I have to do is talk about it and I cry. I wish I could turn off the tears, but I just can't do it. I actually was taking xanax before my appointments and it was really helping, but now I am scared to take xanax with my heart rate this low. Does it lower your heart rate even more when you take xanax? Up until this I was pretty much taking it every day - just half of a .5mg pill. Now, like I said, I'm afraid to take it because I don't want my heart rate going any lower.
I have tried lowering my beta blocker. If I take a quarter of it, I still get the racing heart (100+) unless I am laying down. If I lay down it still gets into the 60s. When I got up this morning I only took 1/4 of my bb and it didn't help. So I took another 1/4 and now here I sit at barely 50bpm. I went in to see my cardio two weeks ago when this first started happening. He told me to only take half of the pill and everything was fine for two weeks. Now my heart rate is dropping too low on just half. The whole pill is only 5mg to begin with!
I have been taking this beta blocker since February. I was having no problems up until now. I actually felt pretty good for a few months. I wasn't even checking my pulse all that often anymore. Two weeks ago I went to half dose. I just don't understand why this would change so suddenly like this. I also don't understand how I was taking 5mg for 5 months and I was fine. Then my heart rate drops real low so I cut them in half and take 2.5mg for two weeks - feeling ok. Now the 2.5mg is making my heart rate too low, but 1.25mg does nothing and I still get tachy any time I move around. I don't know which is the lesser of the two evils - tachy or brady.
The reason I don't want to call the cardiologist is because he will just tell me to stop checking my pulse and my heart rate in the 40s is OK for me. I will probably start crying the second I start talking to him and I'm sure he thinks I am a total nut!!! Obviously my heart rate in the 40s is NOT OK for me. If it were, I wouldn't feel dizzy all the time. My arms even feel very heavy. Or if he does tell me to take only 1/4 of the pill, then I have to deal with the tachycardia most of the day. I just don't know what to do other than to sit here and cry. This is consuming me right now!!!
If anyone else has any comments about this beta blocker and the effect it seems to be having on my heart rate, please share them with me. I am really at my wits end right now about this. Thanks!
