Last week, my father's eardrum ruptured. (he's in his late 50's) The doctor said he must have had an ear infection and didn't know it. Now his ear is swollen nearly shut and he's in terrible pain. My dad is not one to complain or miss work - he hasn't worked since last week and he's been taking pain pills -- so I know he's hurting. My mom said today that she was able to get the ear drops in easier, so it must be going down some, but he's still in pain..

Has anyone ever had this happen? If so, did yours hurt this bad? Could you do anything to help the pain (ice pack, heat pack, etc) Also, did your hearing return??

If ANYONE can help me, I'd appreciate it.

I don't know much of this but i've read one thing while trying to find out what i have, never use ear drops if the ear drum is ruptured, hopefully your doctor ordinated it, if not it's probably best to stop at once. If it havn't got better yet...
