I had a tonsillectomy in March and I then had an emergency surgery to correct some bleeding about 11 days following that surgery. I still have a very sore throat to this day. I have some trouble breathing at night. I just went to a second ENT today to get a second opinion. My first ENT gave me a prescription for Nexium thinking that acid reflux was slowing down the healing process. My heartburn has lessened but my throat is still killing me. The ENT today told me that his educated guess would be thyroiditis but that he wants to do a thyroid scan and an ultrasound to see if there are any growths or tumors. I know that he is just trying to cover all the bases but when I hear the words "growth" or "tumors" it sends chills up my spine. He did state that he was concerned because I am a male and only 23 years of age. Most times thyroid problems occur in women and not until they reach the age of 30. Does anyone know how common it is for a male of my age to be having thyroid problems?
