Hello ~
It's been about 11 months since I was last on the TTC site, and I have decided to return. Reason: My husband and I would like to try again for another baby. (My dd Izabella was born 5 weeks early on 5/28/06, she is 12 weeks old now) We would like to have the children close in age, due to this will probably be my last child. I'm 34 going on 35 and don't want to be much older with my last baby.
My question is, does anyone know if you can get pregnant while breastfeeding?? (I don't breastfeed exclusively, because I don't produce enough milk, so I supplement with formulathroughout the day.) Is it possible to still get pregnant while breast feeding, how do you know whether you are ovulating if you don't have a period??? Can taking Basal Body temperatures help??
Any help would be greatly appreciated....

If you are not exclusively breastfeeding, it is possible. Since your cycle has not returned to normal, it will be difficult to determine if/when you are Oing. Taking the supplement Vitex (found at natural food stores and on the internet) will bring back your period and you should be well on your way.
In addition, depending on the woman, your prolactin levels may still be too high to ovulate. Vitex can naturally reduce your levels, but it may also diminish your milk supply!
You can try charting your BBT, but my guess is that you are still not Oing yet. It would definitely show whether you are.
Hope this helps some. :) Good luck with your new little one and TTC.

Thanks so much for the info. that was very helpful. I'm familiar with the Vitex, I took it to get pregnant with my daughter and still have some left, but I definitely do not want to lose my milk supply (I'm really low as it is), I would like to try and breastfeed until she's at least a year (Doubt that's possible though with my low supply). I realize I'm wanting alot, with trying to get pregnant already again, there are medical reasons as to why we're TTC so soon after my 12 week old. So, I feel that if I don't get pregnant now, I won't be able to at all in a year from now. I will definitely look into this further before taking anything, I don't want to take anything that could harm my dd, through my milk.
Thanks again, and hope others can provide additional input.
