Help Please!! I am going on a very important trip on Sunday for 11 days. I will be out in the wilderness (somewhat) shooting some photographs and I need my guts to be viable. Lately I have had constipation to some degree (although I do go to the bathroom in the morning a few times - which I have been doing for years ) - but I am feeling like I have to go much of the time, even when I can't seem to unless I strain, which I am trying not to do - plus I am hurting there a little (I woke up the other night with hemorrhoid pain). I did go to the doctor a week ago (before it got this bad) and told him I have had IBS for years and needed to know what I should eat on the trip). He just told me to rotate between citracel tablets and immodium if I started having to go too often - and then told me there was nothing in particular that I should eat that he could recommend (and he is a specialist!!).
I hate to start up with more serious laxatives - but this problem is bugging me to no end and I am worried about lack of bathroom out in the field. Like many people with IBS, I can have bouts of diahrea too - especially after I eat. I am eating salads frequently, although I think this all started when I was not hydrated enough (so now I am drinking water like mad).
Any suggestions for getting rid of the constipation and for eating when I am out on the prairie to keep problems to a minimum?
