So I changed jobs in the past month or so. Like I really needed to add lack of insurance to my plate. So thats the deal I had my leep in April or whenever, seems like forever ago. I have my recheck scheduled for next week. My new insurance does not kick in for another 2 months or so. Should I wait for my new insurance, or fork over the 100 bucks for the check up and then the money for the lab? Or should I go to one of those free clinics until I get insurance then go back? When it comes to my health I don't want to mess around. I wish my new insurance was in effect now but its not. I just wanted some other opinions on this. Thanks. You guys are all great. You definatly helped me through this. Thanks again :)

I wouldn't recommend a "free clinic". Not that they aren't good everywhere....but I went to one after having my second child (medical bills adding up). They did a pap smear on me that came back negative (doctor said that I needed a colposcopy). I went back there to do my colpo and while he was doing it, said I need to make an appointment for a scraping, I was going to turn into cancer if I didn't get the "bad cells" out. The results came back as "normal"!!!! The doctor there said we will have to do it again and "it makes you wonder what the lab was somking" (exact words). I then went to my doctor that delivered my son. He did 3 paps, and all came back fine, and he did a colpo for me to feel better (even though he said I didn't need one) and it came back fine!! Also, my mother and a friend of mine went there and they were both told (different doctors) that they had a lump in their breast that was breast cancer. After consulting in a "regular doctor", they were determined to be fine also. I believe you should just pay $100 + lab fees. There is nothing more important that your health!! (Just my opinion)!

So my appt was Monday. I was anxiously awaiting it. I had called earlier to find out how much it would be. When I arrived I asked about payment plans or a sliding scale fee. Something anything. She had told me it would be anywhere from 100 and up depending on what they do. Then there was the lab. So I knew it was going to get pricey. But I figured its worth it, its my health. The receptionist asked if I wanted to cancel I said no. So I wait. Finally I get in to see the nurse she goes over my chart and asks me if its just a repeat pap. I said yeah, nothing else cuz I am paying cash, my insurance hasn't kicked in yet. So she goes through my chart again. She says are you sure you want to pay? She said its nothing serious. Your margins were clear and its not even a cin I, II or III. She said if I was you I would wait the extra two months. She said you have nothing to worry about. :) It was a huge relief having a nurse tell me that. I just wanted to keep you guys updated. Thanks for your support. Hpv and dysplasia are such horrible things. The worst thing is the constant waiting. Ughh! I'm so glad I found this board. Its nice to be able to share with other people out there that are going through some of the same stuff. My next appt is in Oct. I'll keep you guys updated. :jester:

That is wonderful that the nurse took the time to speak to you about this and reassure you that you could wait another two months until your insurance kicks in. I know how stressful it can be. :)

I second that. I have met a lot of nice nurses lately, its so nice to feel that someone actually has your best intrest at heart. Good luck fluttergrl!
