View Full Version : lose weight for heart! HELP

hello!
I have arvc/arvd (arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/ dysplasia) an advanced form. This means fatty tissue takes over the heart. There is no cure! I have rapid heart beats even with meds (sotalol 160mg &toprol xl 50mg) and I have an ICD. I have near fainting episodes(I drop to my knees) at any given point with/without activity. My pacer goes off often, my defibrillator not so often. I'm tired often and I'm currently not working due to sensitivity to heat and the near fainting. My resting bp is about 50-60 and fast for me can be 230. I am not physically active anymore, walking can cause near fainting episodes. Within 3 minutes of walking my rate will be at about 160 so I stop. I need to lose weight badly and need some suggestions how to do it?I can only exercise within limits, so it will have to be done by controlling my eating. This will be hard! I use to be very active and could eat and I do love to eat. I'm now 236lbs 35yo and 5'8". It's hurting my health. I hate being big! If I lost weight I would feel better. It would take stress off my heart. How do I eat less, feel full and at the same time be satisfied? I'm not a veggie eater. The doctor says to cut out breads and sweets easier said than done. What do I need to tell myself to make it real and to make it most important? Thanks for all replies!

Since your life is in the balance here, I think you should look for help for your diet. As a minimum, something like Weight Watchers that teaches you how to limit quantities and gives reinforcement in the form of meetings, weighings, lectures and the like.
If you had big bucks, I'd say something like a health farm for a couple months.

You really must lose 80 pounds and since exercise is probably out of the question, your diet is super-important.

I agree - Weight Watchers is a very good program. You attend the meetings every week and it's fairly easy to follow. I joined WW many years ago, and lost weight in a few months. It's worth every penny for you to join. As Lenin mentioned, a "fat farm" sounds great, but it's expensive!! Start today - find out where and when the next WW meeting is and GO !!!
