Hello
I had a Hemorrhoidectomy six weeks ago today. Although I am feeling alot better I am still suffering from a few things and was wondering if anybody could help with some answers.
First of all, I still feel like I have to go to the bathroom (pressure) alot. And when I do go it is not a completley formed stool. Sometimes its skinny and short and some times it's kinda chunky and I still bleed a while I go too. If that makes any since to any of you... I am not taking any stool softners and have not been for almost 4 weeks now. they gave me diarrea so my dr recommended that i go back to doing and eating a normal diet.
Second, Its seems like I leak stool! I think that is the most horriable thing... Did any one have any of these problems and most definatly how long before it all goes away????? Like i said before I do feel better but not 100%. This has been a LONG road....
Also, when I do defacate it burns for about 10 minutes or so after. and then I am pretty sore for mostly the rest of the day, is that common????
Like I said, i have not taken any stool softener for quite a while now. After about 1 week after surgery, they gave me diarrea. I still took them until my dr recommened that I just stop! So needless to say it has been a battle getting my bowels back on track. Hope this all makes since to somebody that I can get some reasurrance from!
Thanks again

I HAD A HEMORRHOIDECTOMY ON AUGUST 25TH.LIKE YOU I AM SEARCHING FOR ANY HELP I CAN FIND. I DID NOT HAVE A BM FOR ABOUT 2.5 DAYS AFTER MY SURGERY FOR A GANGRENOUS THROMBOSED HEMORRHOID +AN ADDITIONAL INTERNAL . OF COURSE THE FIRST BM WAS LIKE PASSING CRUSHED GLASS. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ABOUT 2 BM'S A DAY SINCE THEN. THE BURNING STARTS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVEMENT FEELS LIKE JALAPENO PEPPERS HAVE BEEN RUBBED INTO MY CANAL , LAST FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER. :blob_fire . I HAD LITTLE BLEEDING UNTILL ABOUT A WEEK LATER, THEN I HAD A NASTY EPISODE ,I WOKE IN THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING AFTER SLEEPING THROUGH MY REGULAR HYDROCODONE(GENERIC VICODIN)DOSE, IN PAIN AND WITH A MAJOR URGE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM. AFTER TAKING MY MEDICATION , I SPRINTED TO THE BATHROOM AND SHOT OUT A SMALL HAMBUGER SIZED CLOT . IM REALLY NOT EXAGGERATING ,THE FIRST CLOT WAS THE SIZE OF A SLIDER! T.M.I.? I SHOWERED SOAKED DRIED OFF IN FRONT OF A BOX FAN,AND WENT BACK TO BED. AN HOUR LATER,I WOKE UP , HAD THE URGE TO GO . I SHOT OUT MORE SMALLER CLOTS AND DRIPPED BLOOD . NOT AS BAD. I WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE CLEAN AND DRY ROUTINE, WENT BACK TO BED. AN HOUR LATER WOKE UP REPEATED AGAIN. NEXT DAY CALLED DOCTOR,HE SAID EVERYTHING SOUNDS NORMAL.
I HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY STOOL SOFTENERS. LUCKY ME!:) I HAVE LOST 15+ POUNDS SINCE A WEEK BEFORE THE SURGERY.WHEN MY ADVENTURE BEGAN.I DONT EAT ALOT NOW FOR FEAR IT HAS TO COME OUT. I DRINK PLENTY OF WATER ,EAT LOTS OF FIBER CEREAL,FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. NOT MUCH RED MEAT. MOST EVERYTHING IS BLAND! ITS BEEN 10 DAYS SINCE MY SURGERY AND I STILL BLEED AT EVERY BM.THE BURNING IS THE ABSOLUTE WORSE. I WAS SUPPOSE GO BACK TO WORK TOMORROW ,NOT A CHANCE! I CRY AND WIMPER AT EVERY BM AND THE WHOLE ROUTINE TAKES AN HOUR OR MORE. I HAVE TRIED TO WEEN MYSELF OFF THE HYDROCODONE 2 X6TIMES A DAY AND 1 OR 2 ADVIL IN BETWEEN. I MAIL ORDERED GOTU KOLA LIQUID ON THE INTERNET,AND TRIED A DROP ON A CUT ON MY TOE ,IT BURNED TOO MUCH TO TRY IT ON MY CRACK YET. I HAVE BEEN OOZING OUT OF MY BUTT A LITTLE, SO I BEEN WEARING PADS AND SOAKING A COUPLE TIMES A DAY. MY CHEEKS ARE RED AND IRITATED SO I AM NOW USING GOLD BOND POWDER.TOO EARLY TO TELL. HOPE WE ALL GET BETTER SOON!

I'm back on this site 35 days and over 300 vicadin later.Things certainlly got a LOT worse before they got better. The screaming in my pillow was my low point that lasted for a few days. For sure the worst pain of my life! Dislocated knee pain was nothing compared to my postop pain. Calmoseptine cream was so good for the diaper rash. Just remember to keep it away from your hole. Vicadin barely takes the edge off the pain it takes about an hour to kick in and only last about an hour. I sometimes reverted back to the Dibucaine Ointment I got at the hospital. The problem is for everything I did I created another problem. The bleeding and draining got worse .I learned more about womens pantiliners than a man should know! The ones with wings and the ones that come folded up are no good if you have boy parts! The light days extra coverage worked best for me. During my recovery time I experianced diarrea for four days straight.Constipation for three days, whitch milk of magnesia took care of. I was fortunate I never had to revert to stool softeners. Its hard to get the right combo that works to keep regular, and I,m sure that everyone is different. Im off the vicadin for about a week now, that stuff has made me an emotional mess. I can't wait untill it's completely out of my system.I finally shed my pillow and can sit with no problem.I spent many dinners with my family standing or kneeling at the table.
Support from family and friends is one of the most important thing. Some neighbors would run and hide others were supportive.it was so important for me to vent to get the pain out! My wife is an angel:angel: to put up with me.
This has been a life changing event for me! I am going to hopefully my last doctors appointment next week.It was impossible to pry any info out of my doctor. I had a rare infection after my surgery and was forced to go back on antibiotics. I finished those yesterday, I lost a total of 25 lbs. I finally gained 1 lb back. Now my appetite is back so maybe I can get my strength back soon.Water Water Water is the Key and fiber cereal is important. I hope to go back to work part time late next week. It will be tough because I have a high stress job. Im still bleeding and draining ,and there is a lot of undercarrage maintainance required.:dizzy: I could go on for days but keep in mind as tough as it gets you will get better!

I had my hemorrhoidectomy on 9/22. I am really not doing well at all. Every BM hurts like crazy and my bottom just does not feel normal. I keep reading all the posts at this site and others and it has me feeling like I shouldn't have done this surgery at all. I had a thrombosed hemorrhoid and was told the only way I could get rid of it was by this surgery. I now think that recovery from this surgery is harder than living with that hemorrhoid. I am very depressed and am having a hard time functioning on a daily basis which is not good as I have a family to take care of including my newborn baby. Can anyone who has had this surgery give me any tips or advice and also let me know that I will eventually be able to have a BM without pain???

It's funny, my father said the same thing about having his done when he was 20-ish, about 50 years ago. He said ... "The doc made a cut, pulled the vein out and snipped it off." Which in reality is somewhat the same thing I had done with my thrombosed hemmorhoid.
I dunno, maybe they had a high fiber diet back then that made things a lot better than now.
I'm almost 10 weeks post-op and if I'm not watching my fiber intake I can can have a pretty painfull bowel movement (bm). Right now I'm averaging one hard BM for every 3 softies. I guess my body just isn't fiber-friendly.
I'm not one for giving semi-medical advice here, but if you take 3 tablespoons of Metamusil per day with $hitloads of water, things get a lot better.
Oh, and think back on things that gave you problems before the surgery, for me it was drinking too much Iced Tea at lunch.
So after the surgery I drink a boatload of Iced Tea and lunch and then enjoy the nice soft explosion around 2pm.
Connecting the dots at this stage in the game is a bit hard, especially for a first-timer like me.
But I swear, tons of water and get your daily dose of fiber. (Dont go overboard on fiber as it can block you up too.)
Hang in there,
-Duc

Hey Duc,
Thank you so much for replying to my posts. Great news about your stitches too! I am just two weeks post-op today so I know that still have some healing to go. Please continue to keep letting me know how you are doing so I know that things will get better as it sounds like they are for you.
